Kissing introduced to Japan by the west?

Stan (or anyone else who might know...) a friend of mine mentioned that the act of kissing was a western custom, only introduced through western interaction with the east. Is this verifiable?

I've been tinkering with a script that involves feudal Japan and have a kiss at the end! Was wondering if I needed to take it out!

Kissing was a western custom introduced by the Portugese. I think I mentioned this in one of my story notes, though I'm not certain which issue or how indepth I got on the subject.

That is so cool, I never knew that.

I'm going to have to do some research on this being Portuguese myself and all.
