I'll go with Tezuka's "Phoenix" series, his "buddha" series and "Adolf" series. unfortunately, most of the manga published in the U.S. is teeniebopper stuff. Lone wolf and cub is decent but the editions are so small it's tough to discern what's in the pictures... "Legend of Kamui" is really good, and I like the "vagabond" series but Can't give it both thumbs up because of the format (left-right) Do Japanese people read american comics the way we read them (right-left) ... I doubt it. it's those stupid manga "purists" ... why read something backwards that's equally enjoyable in every way when you just print a mirror-image??? plus the english language -translated manga is sooooo lame...soo many manga to chose from, and 95% of what we get here is totall crap... still, tezuka is my all-time favoriet graphic artist (nudging ahead by a hair Gaiman, Sakai, Moore, etc. I really want those publishers to print the rest of the buddha and phoenix books in english- I'm getting so impatient. :([/b]
