Warrior spirit: Samurai are cool

From the hungry ronin in Akira Kurosawa's classic Seven Samurai to more modern interpretations in Takeshi Kit-ano's Zatôichi or even Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai, Japanese swordsmen have achieved a near-mythic place in popular culture. Samurai are cool.
This phenomenon is examined in a new art exhibition opening tomorrow in Toronto. Bridging the traditional and the contemporary, Ode to Edo: Legacy of the Samurai collects the work of 21 artists and presents it alongside a historical collection of samurai armour. All the artists have been influenced by this culture in some way; the pieces range from Katana-wielding samurais locked in battle to skeletal warriors, from Asian-style paintings to Western-style pop art.
I should have been in Quebec (for the 400 years) this week, have seen the whales in Tadoussan, and should have gone to Niagara through Toronto, i could have reported you this expo...
...but instead you choose to recuperate, which is just as good!
I can understand your feelings, but try not to think about what you might have missed, rather try to look forward to the things you're going to do....
Greetings from overseas
