Is Rutger Hauer a samurai??? I watched a movie last night called blind fury... that was almost Zatoichi.. But not at all like it too.

It was weird but I couldn't stop watching it, it was like a train wreck or a guy playing with dynamite.

Rutger Hauer played a blind swordsman, what get's me though is that he actually had some moves. Man it's weird.

As far as I know, the main character in "Blind Fury" was inspired by Zato Ichi.

I think that the question was: is the character played by Rutger Hauer a samurai.

Oh, you kids these days. Rutger Hauer IS samurai-- he is "one who serves" the film industry, although less now than in the grim days of the 1980's. A short list of movies that anyone old enough to enjoy a mature (not "adult", mind) movie:
The Hitcher-- Rutger as Psychotic Killer
Flesh and Blood-- as Psychotic 17th Century Mercenary
Blade Runner-- as Psychotic Android
Split Second-- as Psychotic London Future Cop
Blind Fury-- as Blind Swordsman
Ladyhawke-- as Knight and Part-Time Wolf
Fatherland-- as Nazi Good Cop
Bleeders-- as Very Drunk Doctor
(Note 1: As a Dutchman, he's probably not acting too much)
(Note 2: This is a rather good adaptation of H.P.Lovecraft's "The Lurking Fear")
Omega Doom-- as Psychotic Android Toshiro Mifune
(Note: this one is only good if you REALLY liked "Yojimbo")

Check him out on IMDB-- he's been in a LOT of stuff, ranging from dreadful grade Q action to annoying Euopean art films.

As far as his "Blind Fury" character being a samurai-- technically not, since he's very blond and the people he learned sword-form from were rather more Vietnamese/Laotian than Japanese. It made for a slightly more convincing way of getting a modern, blond, "American" guy the Zatoichi skill-set.

Out of all these movies I've only seen "Blade Runner", "Ladyhawke" and "Fatherland" (btw., shouldn't it be "Vaterland"?).

What does "IMDB" mean?

Ganz bestimmt, but it was made for a North American audience, and we're pathetically monoglot over here.
What does "IMDB" mean?
Oop. Internet Movie Data Base. Occasionally incorrect, but generally useful.
