Usagi and Dragon by Katie Cook
5x14 ink and watercolor

At SDCC, Katie Cook always has the craziest long line for her tiny $10 watercolors. She's so busy that she doesn't do any larger format commissions at that show. So when I saw her at Palm Springs Comic Con with absolutely no line at all, I decided to ask if she'd do a larger piece. I asked for just Usagi, so was pleasantly surprised with the bonus dragon she added. Katie said she had fun as it wasn't a character she often gets asked to do.

That's neat!!!
But wait... you mean to tell me Palm Springs has a comic con? I just find that amusing.

Looking at it some more, the dragon looks more than a little like Stan.

Are you saying the dragon shares Stan's facial features, or that it resembles his artistic style?maichan wrote:Looking at it some more, the dragon looks more than a little like Stan.

Re: The Gallery of Kyle (jabba359)
I haven't updated in a while, so here are my additions since my last post:
Usagi and Spot by Stan Sakai
11x14 pen and ink

This was an eBay purchase last July. I got it from Go, who was selling it to fund his guitar.
Usagi vs Jei by Stan Sakai
6.5x6.5 ink on cardboard packaging

I got this AP remarqued edition of the Sakai Exclusive figure late last year.
Usagi and Gen by Dimitris Pantazis
7x10.25 (each) watercolor on board

I found Dimitris on Instagram though a mutual friend, Anthony Wheeler (you might recognize his name from the Dojo sketch cards he did). He has a great style and I was very impressed with his Inktober pieces from last year (which I picked up one of them as well) and the custom bookmarks he makes. He certainly has a Mignola influence on his style, which I really enjoy. I reached out to him about doing these two characters and it was his idea to make them two parts of a shared image. If you place them side by side the backgrounds match up.
As he prepared to do the Gen piece, he did some practice studies and included that in my package as a bonus (see below).

11x7.75 pencil and watercolor on watercolor paper

Looks like Old Man Gen (and I mean it as a compliment)

Now would I cheat a friend?

Re: The Gallery of Kyle (jabba359)
Gen by David Petersen
9x12 pencil, ink and white pen on toned paper

I wasn't expecting to update my art thread so soon, but this great piece mysteriously showed up at my house recently.
What's funny is that I saw David post this at C2E2 and I was a little jealous, as I had actually considered asking him for a Gen piece before but now somebody had beat me to it. I never imagined that someone must have read my mind (I don't think I've ever mentioned wanting to get a Gen from David) and asked the exact artist for the exact character as a gift to me. So thanks a ton Eltanin! You're the best!
