The Gallery of Kyle (jabba359)
Got my first commission ever at San Diego Comic Con this year (also my first Comic Con). I love the dynamic of the friendship between Usagi and Gen, so asked Stan to paint a piece with those two characters as well as a Tokage. The finished piece turned out fantastic!

What a beautiful piece. For many years it was difficult and costly to get one of Stan's water color pieces. Congratulations on your first commission piece. Wonderful. Peace, maka

It's always nice to see Usagi and Gen together. Congrats.

Re: The Gallery of Kyle Wright
Besides a brief appearance in the original TMNT cartoon, I didn't know anything about Usagi Yojimbo until I picked up Fantagraphics' Usagi Yojimbo: The Special Edition a few years back. After reading it, I quickly picked up all the other trades. Since this book was my introduction to Usagi, it was the book I selected to bring along to Comic Con this year for my first signature from Stan. He drew me a quick Usagi sketch (which unfortunately got a little smeared due to the ink not drying before being shut) which is pictured below.

Re: The Gallery of Kyle Wright
After getting back from Comic Con, I saw that Stan would be doing another signing not too far away. I decided it would be cool to get my other Fantagraphics book signed as well, so brought it along. Since I had Usagi in book 1, I requested a quick sketch of Gen for book 2, which Stan graciously obliged. He spent a little more time and added a little more detail than I had expected for a quick sketch and I'm extremely pleased with how it came out. Thanks a ton Stan!

I have a couple other signed items from Comic Con, but need to take pictures and will post them up later.

Thanks! It seems that Stan has been doing quite a few watercolors this year and I enjoy seeing what other people are commissioning.Maka wrote:What a beautiful piece. Thank you as well! Besides Usagi, Gen is my favorite character. I suppose I enjoy the contrast between Usagi's happy optimism and Gen's grumpiness and the friendly conflict it creates. Toshiro Mifune is one of my favorite actors (from many of Akira Kurosawa's films) and I feel that Mifune's characters are very similar to Gen, from the scraggly unshaven beard to their humorous cantankerousness.Gaffey wrote:It's always nice to see Usagi and Gen together. Stan did a quick little Usagi sketch at Comic Con for my RokuToys Usagi statue.

Re: The Gallery of Kyle Wright
I was extremely pleased with my first commission from Stan at SDCC last year (see my first post in this thread), so I decided to get a second commission from Stan at WonderCon 2015. I knew I wanted Usagi in his armor and riding into battle. Keeping in mind that Stan likes drawing dinosaurs and not so much horses, I asked for Usagi to be riding on a dinosaur. Stan let me know that he'd be happy to do it, or if I wanted a horse, he'd be happy to do that too. In the end, I elected for the dinosaur, as I was a huge dinosaur fan as a kid and it seemed like this could be a fun piece. I love how it turned out (my scan is pretty good, but it looks even better in person) and am glad I went with the dino option. Now, if only I can make up my mind on what to ask for at SDCC this year...

Re: The Gallery of Kyle Wright
One of the pieces that was donated for the CAPS auction was by Jonathan Marks, and it really caught my eye. I couldn't afford it at the time, but I really liked Jonathan's style and so I followed him on Instagram. A few weeks back, he said he was taking commissions for May so I thought I'd inquire. We worked out a deal and I just picked up this fantastic Gen piece from him today.

Re: The Gallery of Kyle Wright
Time for a little art update. I have a couple pieces that I picked up last year that I didn't post yet. The first is a commission from Emil Cabaltierra. It's 11x17 and shaded with watercolor and colored with ball point pen.
