Anyone know about this print?

This might be on offer shortly in my possible direction, the guy says it's a limited to 200 issue. However I'm unfamiliar with it, and I don't think I've seen it before, not even on Sensei's stand at shows. Anyone know how old is it?

That is a serigraph (silk screen) print that Fantagraphics offered circa 1990. It was to be a signed edition of 200 prints, but the printer had problems with screening onto paper so the print run was much smaller. I really did not like the paper stock that was used. It was too slick.

I think it originally sold for about $25.

I found and sold the original artwork, which was drawn actual size, about 2 years ago.

Okay so I gotta know...is it difficult to find information on this website? We've had info on this print on the Dojo since the site went live back in '96.

Just curious...want to make sure the site is as helpful to fans as possible.

I guess I should have been more specific... I knew about the black and white version on that page but I'd not seen a colour version of it. I didn't know if it was produced at the same time, or much later, or whether they were actually one and the same thing. Hence mentioning I hadn't seen it before (I guess I should have said that particular version) and asking how old it was by comparison.

So like a few other prints, they are b/w and colour versions of this art? I just bought an early b/w Usagi print piece from the same guy you see, I think that's why he sent me a message about considering selling this one. I'll get back to him and see if I can also acquire this.

Only color versions of this and the second print (Sashimono) were sold.

Thanks for the confirmation :)

So the shot on the page Todd linked to, the image is of the original artwork done for print but it was never sold in b/w.

Out of interest on that page, the third picture with the two framed b/w prints. The one on the right (Usagi and the dragon) you had a few of the hand coloured variety for sale at San Diego this year, correct? I would have bought one if I hadn't run out of money!

Having missed out on acquiring the original art used for the Usagi computer game (featured on Anything Goes #6), then I wouldn't mind finding the one on the left in that shot because that piece was used at the basis for the loading screen (a picture to view while the information loaded into the computer)...

Ah that explains it then. I can rest easy now knowing the site isn't completely useless :)

That B&W pic on the prints & posters page I think was taken from the Fantagraphics ad for the silkscreen, which was in B&W. I should swap out the image for the one you posted....

That's an awesome piece...I believe it is page 1 from the Critters #6 story A Quiet Meal. If Stan has stuck to his policy of not selling original pages beyond the one or two he sold via the DojoBoard, then he may still have the original.

Another solution is to have Stan completely re-draw the piece as a commission from the original like he did at 2008 SDCC with the cover from Albedo NR2.

Indeed it is a thought to ask for a redraw... but I live in hope that I find an original print of it (b/w or colour) as per your page ;)

(I also hope there's at least one of the coloured dragon pieces left for me to buy at next year's SDCC!)

The guy told me his sister bought the coloured piece for him in 1989 and he's had it hanging on the wall ever since. If I do manage to get it from him, I'll take a bigger picture/scan of it, along with the other piece I bought from him which isn't on that page. When I get it/them... he would only ship within the US so the first piece has been sent to Kris to keep until such point heh.

Yes, I still have the original for that page. I also have a couple of the b/w prints and a couple hand colored ones.

And, yes, I do have b/w and hand colored versions of the Dragon print.

If it is possible Sensei, please put aside a coloured version of both of them and I will purchase them next SDCC... I hope to be there, Kris and I certainly want to come back for Usagi's and TMNT's 25th celebrations :)

This also prompts me now to consider what else I don't have that you may still have...! But that's for months down the line when I know if I am definitely 100% gonna be there next year... Kris and I are hoping that the other show we want to go to will be on the first weekend of August.

So Im guessing Mayhem that you will be bidding on the ebay item and haveing lost to YOU the last two times I will refrain ( plus many thanks for the heads up on the kitefest poster- its at the framers as we speak). That being said I would love to get my hands on one of the color versions of the dragonflys/wind print - Did I read correctly that you need to run ito Stan at an appearance ( and request ahead of time) to aquire one of these?

No problem on the heads-up for the kite poster, I remembered you were still after it... and yeah he decided to put it on eBay as apparently there were a few other inquiries about it so he couldn't just sell it to one person without opening it up.

Next year for SDCC I'm going to make a proper list of everything I can think of and inquire what of all of them Sensei still has that I can buy from him ;)

Requesting ahead of schedule will guarantee it being there for you...
