It's a vintage piece (1986). I'd say the price for such a piece is fair... high, but fair. Personally I'd be willing to pay more for such an early piece...that's just me though.

And it's being kept within the Usagi community here... yep, I was successful there in my bid. Though that was the limit, that was my highest bid. Given the buyer's premium and the shipping, this is gonna work out about $1,000 (if you hadn't noticed previous, go check it out). On the other hand, I've got a very well paying job and the current exchange rate backing me up!

And it's what Todd said... the chance to get something this old AND coloured by Mr Luth was too great to pass up. Given everything else, May is gonna be one hell of an expensive month now... especially with the other piece now over $250 as well. Might pass on that. Or not...

Congratulations, Mayhem. I'll tell Tom of your admiration for his work when I see him on Thursday.

Ah yes, the strength of the British pound. Sharon and I are still considering stopping off in London in October, but I've been watching the exchange rate and it will be an expensive stay.

Congrats on winning the piece, Mayhem!

As for that other piece...I'm still watching one myself. It's an unbelievably awesome vintage piece, almost too good to pass up.

Congrats, Mayhem. I really wanted this piece, but I guess I want $800 in my banking account a little more :)

Regarding the final bid on this piece, I think it's totally justified. While Stan continues to produce original art, this is vintage Usagi, and is therefore only available in severely limited quantities, since Stan's style has since evolved. I definitely felt some strong nostalgia while looking at this piece. I was ready to go $350, which is less than the piece would have cost new, but it was all I felt I could afford.

I think Stan's prices for original art are appropriate. Expensive, but absolutely reasonable. And I think the prices for these vintage pieces are also right on the money.

With the fees and the shipping, final total was $1,010. Ouch. Plus I'll have to deal with import duty no doubt when it gets here. It's being Fedexed apparently, the cheapest option rather than normal airmail! I'll get a shipping track number in due course no doubt, but I defo will scan/photo the piece properly for here when it arrives :)

Well, my inclination is the latter, compared to others who might do similar-quality work. With that said, however, one of the things that makes your work so appealing is that it isn't so expensive that you have to take out a second mortgage to afford a piece. :)
