Re: Usagi Yojimbo: Senso
It's great reading a Usagi comic again and this is a terrific start to this story.
I do have a question though about the new title masthead. Is this new design just for this mini or for the ongoing series as well when it returns? It's different and fresh but also rather Marvel-esque in a way.

Great to hear there will be an affordable, unsigned hardcover. I much prefer the hardcovers for 47 Ronin and Nilson to ones with dust covers. They feel much nicer, and dust covers are always quick to get damaged.

The masthead is for Senso only. This is a mini-series independent of the regular Usagi series, and deserved its own look to not confuse the two.Jubei wrote:It's great reading a Usagi comic again and this is a terrific start to this story.

Hey, hey, hey...I wrote another review for issue 3. Click the link in my sig.
It's awesome. And fricken sad! Saddest comic I've read in all my years of collecting.

Thank you, Terry!
And we're only halfway done.

Oh yeah, I hate you Mr. Sakai.
This had better be like the Star Trek reboot and be some kind of alternate reality or something cuz things suck right now.
Love it!

Estee, your review is great. No spoilers. That must have been hard to do. I just read the comic and laughed out loud on the third page. Senso is a great way to welcome Usagi Yojimbo back! Peace, maka

Re: Usagi Yojimbo: Senso
My prediction.....
Everybody Usagi knows, as well as Usagi himself, will end up dying honorable samurai deaths in the war against the Martians, fighting the good fight until the very last issue of Senso.
Then Zilla will (finally) make his reappearance and stomp the Martian tripods into oblivion.

Is Zato Ino going to make an appearance? Is he going to die? That will be worse than when Spot died. Expect a lot of hate mail from me.
Disclaimer: I have no insider knowledge of how this tale progresses or ends. But it's been a FANtastic ride so far!
Peace, maka

Re: Usagi Yojimbo: Senso
Zato-Ino and his daughter were originally in Issue 5 but, like many other characters, had to be written out because of space limitations. I wanted a scene with Ino tearing into the martians with his trusty sword cane. I also had a nice scene when Ino first hears the martian ship, but his daughter could not because, unlike him, she had the handicap of being able to see. Another couple with a daughter was Gen and Kitsune. Inspector Ishida was also written out, though I regret not drawing him in a cameo helping to evacuate the town.Maka wrote:Is Zato Ino going to make an appearance?
I have already told Diana that I will be redoing some of the pages for the collection.

You have to include the Woodcutters! They have to be seen somewhere. That's just a given.Stan Sakai wrote:Zato-Ino and his daughter were originally in Issue 5 but, like many other characters, had to be written out because of space limitations. Re: Usagi Yojimbo: Senso
My theory: at the end of the story Usagi sacrifices himself to stop the Martian invasion... then we see that this entire thing is some sort of prophesy by a seer on Mars, telling them exactly what would happen if they invaded Earth now. The Martians then decide to postpone their invasion for 200 years, when conditions will be more favorable (and when H.G. Wells' story takes place).
