Er... ah, nerts. I was going to suggest some naughty Tanuki sorceror to cause Usagi headaches, but the I remembered that tanuki-bozu in Wrath of the Tangled Skein. Of course, if Sakai-sensei is inclined to give them the same dispensation as foxes (mystical, myth-wrapped critter, BUT ALSO valid "character race"), the way is clear.

Monkey ninjas. They'd be all agile and dexterous, masters of hand to hand combat, but prone to bragging (possibly not the best quality in a ninja). Also monkeys are under-rated, and what could be cooler than a ninja monkey?

Do extinct animals count? Because I'd love to see a Dodo Ninja clan :D .

The Zo Ninja clan is a neat idea, but I think that Sakai-sensei ditched it. There have been plenty of cats, but only one tiger and one lion, if I recall (there was a lion casualty in one of the very first UY stories, but that doesn't count ;) ). Oxens, wolves, mice, deers, weasels, porcupines, koalas (they're aggresive!), hyenas, bulls, and pretty much any other mammal out there (although reptiles and birds would also be good). There are too many to choose from.

I've got a question that's been bugging me for awhile. What kind of animal was Buichi Toda (Mifune's traitorous general)? In "Goblin" he looks like an Ox-based animal with a horn on his nose like a rhino. Any speculation???

Gunblade, that was a great idea for a topic of discussion. It's been fun to think about the possibilities.
