A question about Gen's past

Post by shaxper »

I've been rereading some of the earlier Usagi stories lately, brushing up on the characters' histories. In the original Ronin story (Usagi vol. 1 #4), Gen laments that the day a Samurai becomes a ronin is the sadest day in his life, and then promises he'll tell Usagi the story of how he became masterless one day. Yet, when we finally hear Gen's story about growing up with his father and how he came to be a bounty hunter, we never see Gen serving a master, nor are led to believe that he ever did or will. Am I missing something here, or did Stan possibly change his mind as Gen's character developed? If it's the latter, I'd be very curious to hear Stan's original idea for Gen's story.
