What am I missing?

Post by Deathstroke »

Okay, I've read the first 8 trades now. I'm thoroughly addicted to the series. This is beyond great.

I have a question, if I read all the trades, is there anything I'm going to be missing, any issues etc?

The trades include all the important appearances that affect Usagi's continuity. However, Usagi has made several appearances in other titles that are not reprinted in these editions. If you're a completist, I believe Steve Hubbell has the full list of appearances somewhere. Off the top of my head, I know of

Dark Horse Presents 140
Dark Horse Maverick 200(something) 1
Dark Horse Presents Annual 1999
Art of Usagi Yojimbo 1 and 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (vol. 1) 47
Turtle Soup #1
Wizard Magazine September 1999

There's one more Wizard appearance, another TMNT one-shot appearance, and several appearances in some very obscure independent titles.

Jul/2004 issue # 153 The Dark Horsemen (Dark Horse Comics gives up the body counts)

This is NOT a short story even though it is included in that part of the list which I posted (it just fit nicely next to the other Wizard entry). It is an article / review of some of the series which Dark Horse publishes, along with commentary on which characters have a higher kill ratio / body count. Included where The Goon, Hellboy, Usagi Yojimbo, and Conan (if I remember correctly). Usagi placed second after Conan. Stan contributed a cool image for the article.

I just love that pin-up...I might just have to buy that issue.

3500 kills and counting! Wolverine? Never heard of him.

It's kind of sad to consider, especially since Usagi never wants to kill. He's probably the most moral character I read. In many ways, the bloodshed only makes him more tragic and serves as a bitter commentary on the times in which he lived.
