I'm trying to sharpen my programming skills by making an Usagi game for PC similar to the old C64 game, but with a couple of RPG elements thrown in and a sharper swordfighting system.
If anyone has any cool ideas that they think would make the game more interesting please let me know. Also, any artists who want to help out with the character design should give me a yell. Otherwise it might take me a while to get everything done on my own.
Welcome to the Dojo, and I would love to offer ideas and assistance on your game project, but I am sadly lacking in any and all the required skills or knowledge to be of any help.
I pride myself on being a low-tech, non-artistic, and video game deprived type of person
It doesn't matter if you don't have any skills or experience. As long as you're a fan of Usagi Yojimbo and you know what you find enjoyable, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
If you can get hold of an emulated version of the C64 game of Usagi (bearing in mind I'm not 100% sure of the legality of this. I'm okay because I still have my original C64 game) I would advise giving it a look. It's a really simple, yet really enjoyable game, and is what I'm using as a starting point for ideas for my attempt.
Okay. Here's a screenshot of the game so far. The skeleton of the game is getting built up slowly as Usagi now moves across the japanese landscape and can draw (although not re-sheathe) his sword.
Next stage is to introduce a fun swordfighting element which, to be honest, is the reason I decided to make the game. Abayo!
