Return of the Black Soul Tpb?

Post by johnnyjagwani »

Hi Stan,

Amazon lists this cover for your next collected edition.

Is that the right one?

Thanks in advance..

Don't think so; Sensei presented this cover to be TPB & HC cover for book 24:

Cover 24

That first one is actually the cover to Dark Horse issue #103, which I assume is the first issue collected in the new TPB.

Speaking of which, what issues exactly are collected in the new trade? Is it 103-109 and the story from FCBD 2009?

aah i thought so, but because all the cover design and text was added, made me wonder if stan had decided to use 103, instead of his painted submission..

why should the 'free comic book day 2009' one be in here, aren't the other issues older than '09.. Or am I mistaken?

Collections have sometimes thrown in smaller stories from other sources in the past; Demon Mask is a prime example, it's got a bunch of DHE strips and other shorts outside of the regular comic line as extras at the back.

None of these gaiden (side stories) really do, so there isn't usually an issue with continuity, they are not related to anyone specific in the main arc.

I think the confusion came about because solicitations for the book market need a lot more lead time than solicitations for the comic book market. Book stores require almost 10 months before the book actually comes out, so that means I would have to paint the cover about 11 or 12 months before its release. Dark Horse needed the art in September but I could not get it done before late October, so they used existing art for the book seller market.

As usually, there will be a limited signed/numbered HC of book 24; your best opportunity to pick up a copy would be SDCC, since Sensei normally has it for sale by then; other than that, well your LCS should be able to preorder it via Daimond, but make sure they do it soon (limited, eh?!); Diamond had difficulties filling in all their orders last time.
Amazon might be worth a try, too, but I can't be sure, I've never used it for new UY HCs myself.

I will probably not have the limited hardcover of Book 24 at San Diego. I was told by Dark Horse that it ships from the printer on July 28, missing Comic-con completely.

Last year the HCs shipped a few days before the con, and I was able to express deliver copies to my booth. I can't do that this year.

I should have the trades in time for Comic-con, though.

Thomas, if you want to wait until the end of August, I can hand-deliver a hardcover to you in Germany. ;)

@ Sensei: I'd be most thankful for your offer; I am the patient type, you know

@ Mayhem:I already owe you much more than that as it is, Mayhem, so I'd happily forward anything Sensei brings along for you; so, you won't be able to visit Berlin in August, then? A pity...
