Comic Book Movies, good or bad?

Post by Jeikobu San »

Hey guys

I am, like most of you im sure, a comic book fan( thats putting it lightly). I have enjoyed the last several years. Comic Book films have been poping up every year, some good, some bad, some that just shouldnt have been even though about. In my opinion the two that stand out on the good end, no great end, Spiderman 2 and Batman Begins. They were not just good comics movies, they were great films. The X-Men movies were good and the Blade movies, V for Vendetta was good if you werent to loyal to the original story. Sin City was very good. The Hulk was a bomb im affraid, as was Elecktra, dont even mention Catwoman, Daredevil and the Punisher were just sorta of ok. Anyway, here are some of my views, feel free to give yours here as well.

I personally think "Sin City" was the best of all of them. The "Spiderman" series is very well done too, though, SM3 is looking a bit too "dark and angsty." And I keep hearing reports of more and more villains? Are they gonna have the entire Sinister Six? Geez.

Another thing that bugs me is that I haven't heard anyone even express interest in a Green Lantern film. I'd certainly pay to see that.

Catwoman - heard it was lousy so didn't bother
Hulk - good
Elecktra - okay

I haven't seen either Spider-man movies, DD, Hulk, Catwoman, Elektra, FF or Hellboy.

X-Men - good
X-Men 2 - great
X-Men 3 - Pheonix didn't eat a planet, so it sucked!
Sin City - Fun.
Batman Begins - great
Punisher - pretty good, needs Ennis to write the next one
Superman - okay/good - didn't live up to expectations
V For Vendetta - good

Anyone have an idea who Wonder Woman will be?

I think a few of them were quite good!

Hehe!

At least for my taste.

Elektra( She reminds me of one of my Original Characters... 8)
Daredevil
X-Men 1, 2, 3
Blade 1, 2, 3
Catwoman
Hellboy
V for Vendetta
Spiderman 2 (haven't seen the first one yet)
Sin City

The films that sucked:
Batman Begins
The Hulk

Fantastic Four is actually on the edge between super and lame on my list..

Here is my take on a majority of comic movies:

Constantine - ok but drifted too far from the source material
History of Violence - Fantastic
From Hell - Great
X-Men - Great
X-Men 2 - Great
X-Men 3 - Disappointing but good
Batman Begins - Great
Spider-man - Fantastic
Spider-man 2 - Even better
Fantastic Four - ok
Catwoman - Horrible
Hulk - why did my favourite get ruined? lame!
Punisher - ok but changed way too much
Daredevil - Director's Cut is better but ok
Superman Returns - so sad. I wanted this to be good. Special effects were Fantastic, story was lame.
Sin City - Bloody Brilliant!
V for Vendetta - Awesome
Blade - good
Blade 2 - lame
Blade 3 - lamer (I know its not a word, but its funny)
Since it was mentioned, Aeon Flux - Horrible but I hated the cartoon too.

Projections:

Fantastic Four 2 - ok
Ghost Rider - lame
Superman 2 - better be awesome!
The Dark Knight - hopefully good.

my thoughts:

Spider-man - awesome
Spider-man 2 - slightly more awesome
X-Men - awesome but dissapointed with cyclops
X-Men 2 - good
X-Men 3 - good but not enough new people introduced
Sin City - awesome yet slightly frightening
Batman Begins - christian bale is awesome
Daredevil - pretty good
Catwoman - never saw it
Hulk - nick nolte as massive lightning elemental? Me like! plus eric bana is awesome
Elecktra - kinda odd
Punisher - good
Superman - goodish...
V For Vendetta - awesome
Fantastic Four - the ultimate upset... doctor doom was terrible...
Hellboy - sweet

My forecast:

Spider-man 3 - super mega awesome
Iron Man - dunno... they should just do one big avengers movie, with captain america! and thor!
Ghost Rider - so awesome... a silver surfer movie also needs to be done... and a doctor strange movie
Wonder Woman - once again, they could just do a big justice league thing and get the green lantern in there
TMNT - either the movie will be great, or it will suck but still be funny in a crappy sorta way
300 - other than throwing inferior babies off a cliff... it's gonna be pretty sweet :P
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - yes, he is a superhero, and it's going to be awesome -- High five!

About comic-movie adaptions, I've seen some of them, but maybe not as many as some people around here. I haven't seen V for Vendetta, Elektra, From Hell or Punisher films, for example.

Anyway, about the ones I've seen, I'll go for Hellboy, Sin City, X-Men 2, Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns and, finally, Batman Begins. Aside from that, the rest I've seen aren't just that great but simply entertaining (Constantine, Superman I & II, X-Men, the first two TMNT live-action movies) or I think they're overrated though being somehow enjoyable (Spider-Man movies) or I don't like them in any way (specially X-Men 3: Last Stand, Fantastic Four, Dare Devil, Catwoman, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin and Superman III & IV).

About new movies, I have no interest in things like Fantastic Four 2, 300 or Ghost Rider. Maybe only in Spider-Man 3 and the new CGI TMNT movie, but that's all. :P

The Dark Knight is the title of the next batman movie. It will bring back all of the orginal cast, and Heath Ledger will be playing the joker. I think it will be even better than the first.

Spiderman 3 could be the best of the whole series, if done right.

Fantastic Four 2 will probably suck as bad as the first one did.

The Hulk is getting a restart.

300 will be on par with Sin City.

TMNT could be good, but I wish they would have just restarted the whole franchise and not tried to use the first two.

I personally think that Green Lantern would be a great film, If done with Hal Jordan.

And Captain America would be one of the biggest projects that Marvel could do.

Iron Man, could be good, Robert Downey Jr has be cast as Tony Stark.

I want to see some movement on the Watchmen, that could be on hell of a movie.

And last but not least, Usagi Yojimbo would be great, I see it as a trilogy, may be in CG but with stans art as the outline, with the faces and the look the same, but with the HI Definition CG to bring it to life and color and make it bold, Imagine looking a Fedual Japan, see the moutains with the snow covered tops, a peaceful japanese tune in the back ground you pan down from the mountain, on to the lake in front of it, and then to a grassy hill, the shot then pans over and you see to long ears pop over the edge of the grass, you then relize it is a hill, and walking up a path is a long eared Samurai rabbit, named Miyamoto Usagi. If ever I get my wish of a film career I will make this movie, I may only help produce it, I may just have the tinest part in the process, but it will get made. It would be one of the greatest animation movies ever made.

On the non-superhero side of things, I really enjoyed "Ghost World" and "American Splendor" although I must admit to having read neither comic.

While I certainly agree that Usagi (if handled properly) would make a great animated film, I would have to disagree about the use of CGI. Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting so sick of CGI I could puke. To me, the look of Stan's artwork would best be served by traditional 2D animation. In my opinion, CG is just a way of giving a slick, glossed-over look to mediocre scripts (with "The Incredibles" being one of the VERY FEW exceptions). We all know that Stan's stuff is much better than that.

I'd rather have Studio Ghibli do an Usagi movie, in Japanese.
