Anthropomorphic Tarot card by Stan Sakai?

Post by go »

Dear Readers,
This link leads to a Tarot deck made by comic book artists.
Where can I get this deck?
(Notice the Usagi Yojimbo completist speaking?)
Anyway one of the cards seems to be created by our Sensei.
"- Kardz -"
"The Funny Animal Tarot"
copyright 1995
Comes in clear plastic box.
with printed paper band
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3237957758
Any information will be greatly appreciated ( how to get a deck, how it was produced , etc....).
Thank you!
Best wishes to all,
go

Looks like a Rider-Waite tarot deck (I learnt to read tarot some years ago to freak out my friends, though I already forgot how to read the cards. It's great for role playing games, though). Am I right by guessing that the picture by Mr. Sakai is the top left card on this link?

Questions: I've seen this unicorn (center, the "The Hermit" card) before! Wasn't it in one of the early Usagi stories? So, was it a cameo of a character by another artist? Which comic-book did the artist made?

So, what's the story of this deck? How did it come to light? I'm as curious as go is.

That set was done by Keith____ (last name escapes me at the moment) from Arizona, who I would see every year at the San Diego Con, though I haven't seen him at the last few cons.

The contribution that I did was the Queen of Cups (I think), which was a literal interpretation of the reference card he had provided--a woman, kneeling, pouring water into a pool. It was a very quick drawing. My payment was a deck of cards. Usagi does not appear in the set.

Keith O'Brien, that's his name. I think he was selling sets for $5 each just a couple of years ago.
