Usagi meets Leonardo

Post by Blue jester »

I have vols 1-8 of the graphic novels and counting. I read the first crossover Stan did (the quick, fun one). Later on I read Shades of Grass where Usagi meets all the turtles. In that story I found out Leonardo and Usagi have met twice since the first story.

When? And why weren't they included in the graphic collections?

Actually, they were reprinted in the graphic collections. Rabbit Stew (meeting #1) is in UY Book 3 (way in the back). The Treaty (meeting #2) appears in the hardcover of UY Book 6 (NOT the softcover -- probably thrown in as a bonus for HC buyers), which I believe can still be found for sale.

How many other bonuses do HC buyers get, other than autographed copies? I'm already committed to the softcover.

There have been a few, at least way in the past, where the HC's differed significantly than the SC's... especially in the old Fanta days (different cover art, extra material). Check out the UY Concordance for more info. The Dark Horse HC's do not differ a whole lot from the SC's (mainly signed tip in plates, dust jackets, embossed art, endpapers, etc)).

Try checking ebay or Amazon used books, or any of the other book sellers that sell graphic novels. There's even a few good comic shops online out there that might still have a Hard Cover left.
If that had been in the Mirage published Usagi issues, you might still be able to get those from Mirage-but they'd only have the crossover that came much later--best wishes you can get the HC books!

However, I will note that "The Treaty", where Leo meets Usagi for the second time, written and drawn by Stan tale does appear in the Mirage collected graphic novel called Shell Shock. It's long out of print, and is full of great TMNT short comics. If you are a big TMNT fan, too, it might be worth trying to find.

Usagi / Leonardo

Post by Steve Hubbell »

Since it wasn't mentioned:
Later on I read Shades of Grass where Usagi meets all the turtles. In that story I found out Leonardo and Usagi have met twice since the first story.
Peter Laird (?) wrote a Usagi / Leonerdo story way way back when (Fantagraphic days I think) called "The Crossing" (?)... I think that story is one of the meetings mentioned.

That's the one. There were three meetings before Shades. Stan did Stew first, then Peter did the Crossing. Stan followed up with Treaty and then Shades. During all this Usagi appeared in two ep's of the TMNT cartoon show. The Laird story has not been, nor probably ever will, be reprinted.

Any news on when ol' Longears might meet the lean, green team again (and when we might get another crack at a decent action figure (Okay, so AP's was decent, but it could have been better))?

Usagi will meet the Turtles for the first time again in the Turtles' Fox tv series next season in a 3-part story tentatively called "The Big Brawl". There will also be a new Usagi figure from Playmate that will be part of the new TMNT line.

Great news Stan! I hope that they keep true to your original concept! And by the way, do you have any input on who will do the voice for Usagi?

Can't wait for the figure! 8)

Hopefully someone a little less whispy-sounding than from the last TNMT appearance. For some reason, I have Mako in my head as the guy for the job-- probably because their heads are the same shape

Actually, this appearance will have less to do with Usagi continuity than even his first appearances did. It's just a fun concept that Peter Laird came up with. This is not to preclude any stories that may later take place in Usagi's regular continuity, though.

I'm not sure where the animation or the voice dubbing is done for the Turtles' new show.

Gen may make a cameo in this story.

How about the new action figure? Stan will you be doing the conceptual design work for Usagi? Anything in the way of the Toshiro Mifune action figures done a few years ago would be most welcome.

Playmates hasn't started work on the action figure yet. They're waiting until all the characters in next season's episodes are established. However, like last time, Usagi will have to fit into the look of the other TMNT figures so expect changes in his appearance.
