The September issue includes a two-page article on Stan and Usagi by Jennifer Contino. Most of the coverage is well known to fans already, but Dark Horse editor Diana Shutz reveals some big things are coming for Usagi's 20th anniversary in 2004. "A big hardcover book called The Art of Usagi Yojimbo, and, hopefully, a PVC set of figurines, featuring seven different characters...plus a whole slew of other projects!"

I'm really looking forward to the hardcover book. Dark Horse did a terrific job on the Art of Hellboy

WHAGA!!! The Art of Usagi! That's a textbook, right? Some four hundred pages? Every panel in existence? Cause it's all just so incredible. Either way, I'm buying it. Period. Buying it. And the PVCs. And probably anything else that comes out to boot. DUDE! ART OF USAGI! (Congrats, Sakai-Sensei! Bout time you got that reprinted! And HARDCOVER to boot! LOVE IT!)

Art of Usagi

Post by Steve Hubbell »

Is this the Art of Usagi Yojimbo #3 which has been post-poned for the last couple of years? I seem to remember Stan saying something sometime back about it being possibly released as a hardcover... Also was mentioned as a possible April 2003? release? I do hope it does get published... finally.

The Art of Usagi is scheduled to be a hardcover. It may contain some of the features that were in the Art of Usagi comics--it will certainly have the 12 page "How I create an issue of UY". It will also contain sketches, pin-ups, and perhaps a color section. It will probably be released in late summer 2004.

I hope it will be ready in time for San Diego con so I can get it from you. I buy the regular comics so I can wait to buy the hardcover story collections when I see you in SD. I'll want the Art book ASAP. Two months before SD, the dilemma is whether to order the books at local comic shops through Diamond Previews or hope to pick them up from the cartoonist in SD.

Support your local friendly comic book stores!

Post by go »

Dear Readers,
It is my opinion that we need to support our local friendly comic book stores.
If we do not they will go out of business.
If you can take your books to the Comicon or any other place where Sensei Sakai makes a public appearance i think he will sign them for you.
Please consider spending your money locally to promote our local stores.
Best wishes to all,
go

I agree wholeheartedly with Gordon. I have never refused to sign anything brought to me. There are few outlets for comic books as it is.

What I do have that the store do not, are the out of print and special order stuff.

Diana told me that The Art of Usagi book will probably be solicited for late summer/early fall, after San Diego Con.

That answers my question and solves my dilemma. Thanks, Stan. When I help my brother move 80 boxes of books from LA to SD, I bring as few items of my own as possible.

Best,

Steven
