DC Westerns

Post by MikeM »

I am a huge fan of westerns. I love them all.
One of my favourite comics right now (besides Usagi of course) is DC's Jonah Hex. Well, another western character from DC is Bat Lash. He is getting his own 6 issue mini in December.

About a quarter of the way down....

BAT LASH #2

Written by Peter Brandvold & Sergio Aragones
Art by John Severin
Cover by Walter Simonson
The 6-issue miniseries by acclaimed Western novelist Peter Brandvold (Rogue Lawman, .45-Caliber Deathtrap) and Bat Lash co-creator Sergio Aragones (Groo, MAD) continues! Bat Lash must find Dominique once she’s discovered missing, but he should be very careful. This is bear country!
On sale January 9 • 2 of 6 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

Sergio is the co-creator of Bat Lash? How did I not know this? HOW?

Ever read Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo by Joe R. Lansdale (script) and Tim Truman (art)? I'd like to, but it's hard to find a copy of the TPB for some reason. Lansdale's writing is usually pretty entertaining, so it's probably worth a read. I remember a Garth Ennis interview in which he said that he liked Lansdale and Truman's Jonah Hex comics.

I own the Two Gun Mojo trade. Its pretty good. Definitely the best story out of Jonah's stint with Vertigo. I like Jonah better when he is in more standard western stories as opposed to the 'weird' west.

I should try to hunt down some more Jonah Hex and Bat Lash comics. Oh, and Scalphunter. It seems DC did a better job with their western characters than Marvel did. I always found Marvel's western characters were treated like a joke. Blaze of Glory and Apache Skies were great, but then Marvel made Raw Hide Kid CENSORED and released an offensive mini where he was written as a horrible CENSORED sterotype. If they wanted to do a mini about a CENSORED character, they should have done a series about Northstar one of the most under rated characters in the Marvel Universe.

Wow, now Im off topic. Sorry.
