Monkeys and Usagi

Post by Space Wolf »

Last night I was watching a show about Japan on the Discovery Channel. Amongst the many things they talked about, they showed Japanese Snow Monkeys. They are interesting looking creatures and the little they said about them they sounded fascinating. While watching my mind went from these guys to Usagi and I began to wonder if there has ever been a character in the series based off of these guys?

Anyone know?

They have never made an appearance in Usagi, but I have been planning a story about them when Usagi goes up to Snow Country.

Sharon and I saw groups of them when we went to Nikko 10 years ago. When we got back to LA we saw a report on the news about the monkeys attacking tourists for food. Another thing they would do is go up to a store, and when the automatic door open rush in and steal bags of goodies.

The story sounds like a great idea, Sensei, and I wonder if you will use characteristics of the monkeys stealing in your story?

I did some reading on these monkeys today and it said they like to sit in the hot springs and showed pictures of them doing so. Amazing!

Thank you for responding!

Some of those photos are great. They look like old men in the osen (hot springs), with ice on their faces.

Can't wait to see Usagi head up into snow country. I always relish stories that take place in the snow. I blame Empire Strikes Back on that. :P Snow Monkeys would be very cool!

Would Snow Country be northern Honshu or Hokkaido? Or is it an unspecified geographic region?
