Story ideas?

I once thought about a possible piece of fan-fiction, where Tomoe and Noriko's minds are suddenly switched during one of their "psychic episodes". (This aspect of their relationship was hinted at in the last issue of MOTHER OF MOUNTAINS, when Tomoe subconsciously experienced Noriko's escape from the mineshaft). Tomoe becomes locked within Noriko's body, and Noriko in Tomoe's.
Tomoe, now finding herself a wanted criminal, goes on the run from her own clan. At the same time, she's terrified to discover that the longer she stays in Noriko's body, the more her own personality starts to resemble Noriko's. Of course, Noriko is dealing with the exact same problem in Tomoe's form.
As a result, both sisters make discoveries that forces them to view each other in a new light. Even after their souls are restored to their original bodies by story's end, the experience leaves them shaken to the core.
But because I'm a procrastinating idiot, the story never got off the ground.

Without any thought o what it would involve, or any plot or characters...I've always been a fan of the "backwards" gimmick. I'd liek to read a UY story that started with the ending, maybe just an image of usagi wiping blood from his blade or something, and then through the pages we see the story "de-volve" back to how it started. Pure gimmick but I like those types of things.
This type of story could work well with the Inspector (whose name, I cannot for the life of me, remember). Kinda throw the "whodunit" tradition out the window by revealing at the very beginning "whodunnit" but through the story seeing "whytheydunnit".

THAT'S his name!!! ((thanks for the assist)) - i noticed he's not included in The Cast http://usagiyojimbo.com/characters.html section of the board, unless my lazy eyes happened to miss him. He is probably my favorite character behind Usagi.

maybe it's time to emulate rashomon.. that was/is brilliant.. but as someone suggested above, the whole 'blood on blade' in the first panel - explanation at the end of the issue... of course it would work well with ishida and his type of stories, but for my taste, it might as well focus around any other UY character, and still be exciting..
He does have a page in the Wiki, though.Corky Kneivel wrote:i noticed [Inspector Ishida is] not included in The Cast http://usagiyojimbo.com/characters.html section of the board, unless my lazy eyes happened to miss him. He is probably my favorite character behind Usagi.

Story Ideas
I have two general story ideas that could fit around some of other suggestions made here:
1. Some sort of plotline or adventure involving the indigenous Ainu tribes in northern Japan/Hokkaido. It is a really interesting facet of Japanese history/culture. The Ainu were sort of quasi-referenced in Princess Mononoke. (Could easily tie into a shipwreck.)
2. A re-imagining of the "Story of the 47 Ronin".

It is a very cool story and the shrine in Tokyo to the 47 is really amazing.

That would be SO cool to see!Stan Sakai wrote:I've been thinking of doing a backward story for quite awhile. Mark Evanier did a great backward story for Crossfire, and I've seen Memento quite a few time. Seinfeld also did it on one of their episodes--I remember Kramer's giant lollipop getting bigger as the story progressed.

Re: Story ideas?
This was an interesting topic. Good to see some ideas appealed to Stan.
I would like to see something with other cultures, yes, but not overdo it, since feudal Japan is primarily Usagi's turf. Being of Russian descent, though, made me long to see some friendly Strelsy bear from across the Strait
Liked the "backwards" idea and the hanafuda cards. Hope he is still considering them.
Always thought sake production and consumption should be considered. Also, medicine and food in those times. I do remember they did not consume much, if any, meat at all.
I would like to see Genta becoming another new student for Katsuichi.
And of course, there are many character arcs that need closure or at least development, such as Tomoe's betrothal.

Now would I cheat a friend?
