I don't know if I should let Roel announce it here or if he was waiting for me to do it, but, yes, the statues will be coming out this year. Roel took out a license in manufacturing the statues.

So you all will get the opportunity to own the best Usagi figures ever made.

Wow, thank you for the nice compliment Stan. Yes, the statues will be out this fall in time for the 25th Anniversary of Usagi. Sorry I didn't make an announcement here first but I was trying to finish the statues for Wondercon. I'm working on an official announcement soon and in a couple of months the website should be up to take pre orders. Series one will include Usagi, Tomoe Ame, Gen, Katsuichi and Jotaro. I forgot to take pics of the statues at the booth but hopefully someone else took some. I will post the "coming soon" card here though. Stan deserves all the credit for making this possible. Thanks Stan and here's wishing Usagi a "Happy 25th Anniversary".

I lied. I did take one picture.

Sounds fantastic!

And I really like the sound of "series 1" which implies that there will be more figures to come (such as that fantastic Zato Ino statue).

Set 1:
Miyamoto Usagi
Tomoe Ame
Gennosuke
Sensei Katsuichi
Jotaro

Set 2 will include.... ?
Zato Ino
Chizu
Inazuma
Jei
Lord Noriyuki
Lord Hebi
Kitsune
Sanshobo
Kashira Shingen
Sasuké the Demon Queller
Inspector Ishida

So many cool characters that would look great in 3 dimensions.... :D

Great news! What a year 2009 is turning out to be for UY fans!

Series one will include Usagi, Tomoe Ame, Gen, Katsuichi and Jotaro.
Awesome!
Stan deserves all the credit for making this possible.
I think you had something to do with this.

Thank roel for taking a risk to make this happen. I hope us fans are able (these are hard economic times) to respond with their hard earned cash to make these statues profitable for you and sustainable. I'm looking forward to ordering mine.

Peace, maka

Are they going to be bronze or colored?

That is fantastic news!
Now this maybe jumping the gun a bit, but where will they be sold? Only from a webpage or do will it be solicited through Diamond?

For now it'll be sold only through the website. The maquettes will be colored on a circular black base. Jotaro will also have a tokage with him. There may be plans to sell the statues with the bronze finish as well. There were a lot of positive response at Wondercon for the bronze statues.

What do you guys want?

I personally like the coloured ones more, but think both look fantastic!

Bronze ones (real bronze, mind you!) would be great for book ends, but I think they would be awfully expensive; if they are made of some kind plastic, I'd go for the colored version.
For some reason I don't like plastic figures to look like metal; it's a bit like cheating, you know....

The statues will not be vinyl or plastic. They will be made out of polyresin. The same material that the high end statues are made of.

I agree that these are outstanding. Well done. I'm really looking forward to picking them up. In all honesty, I like the color Usagi and the bronze Jotaro. So, I like them both ways. Any idea what they may cost at this point?

I know I really want a set of these, and I am looking forward to their release. I just hope the economy does not interfere with either their production or with people actually being able to afford to buy them.

Speaking of statues,
Stan Sakai (on Aug 22, 2005) wrote:As a matter of fact, Yes. David Scroggy and I talked about it at San Diego, and agreed that Usagi would make a nice addition to their Syroco sculpture line.
I assume that this project fell through?

[EDIT]
PS
I think I prefer the color versions, but the bronze ones do look awesome.
