Kuniyoshi Yokai Print

Post by khyron82 »

Man, I haven't seen this rokurokubi image since 1987!

Quite an interesting story involving Sakai-Sensei with this one...

Originally, I had made a photocopy of this from an old Japanese Yokai Art Guide that I discovered while nosing around the stacks in my college's Asian Studies Library. I ended up bringing that only copy down to San Diego Comic-Con in 1987 as reference for a possible rokurokubi art commission from Stan (which, as you can see from my art gallery, did happen).

Upon completion, Stan asked if he could keep the photocopy reference, to which I agreed, believing I could easily get another copy from the same library. Alas, the Library must have rotated its stock of books in the intervening years, since I was unable to find that same art volume ever again.

Fast forward to today, and a random search on MSN's Bing search engine using the word "rokurokubi" brings us full circle (and in color even!) :D

I'm thinking the depicted characters would have a case against the Fantastic Four. :)
