I'm a cultural ambassador!

Post by Stan Sakai »

I received the Cultural Ambassador Award from the Japanese American National Museum last night. Sharon was there, and so was Sergio who gave me a large bouquet of flowers. Seated at the next table was Senator Dan Inouye. He is third in line for the US presidency, after the VP and Speaker of the House, so Secret Service was around.

Talked to George Takei, who had placed a very large bid on my UY Special Edition in the silent auction, but was outbidded.

Food was excellent.

I will post more about the evening, probably on my Live Journal later in the week.

Congratulations Stan! What an honor to be recognized by JANM as a cultural ambassador. That was what I wanted to express years ago when I nominate you in the 90's for UCSB's Asian American Faculty Staff Association's Heroes Award. JANM awards is obviously much bigger! Well deserved.

I love that George Takei bid on Usagi.

Peace,

Yeah. I was hoping that, when he saw he had been greatly outbidded, he would say, "Oh, my!"

But he didn't.

Hopefully, he will be at the opening of my exhibit.

That's so great! :D Congratulations, Stan!

But it IS true: Usagi brought japanese (ancient) culture nearer to me than, anything else did. And made me curious, to research more on my own.

Greetings,
Jens

Congratulations, Sensei! Now we should say "Sir", shouldn't we? Is there a title accompanied?

I'd probably have to wangle Stan getting an honorary knighthood here for that, but I'm sure it can't be impossible ;)

Congrats on the award Stan :)

Sharon really likes it because now we have another vase.

Now I've got to buy flowers.
