Just confirming, maybe I missed it but didn't see you as a guest on their website

I beleive the last time I met you was in 1998, it was a real pleasure, you were actually the first one to do a quick sketch in my book, when I was hardcore in comics, single, and no family. 14 yrs later, been out of the mix with comics, have a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful kids, only two artist's I ever kept up with is Usagi yojimbo and Strangers in Paradise (Terry Moore stuff).
Really hoping you get a table, I really do prefer some of the smaller cons just because I'm hoping your not as swamp as you would be like in SDCC, I can only hope and dream LOL, seriously, you really get to meet your favorite creators on a personal level, and you have always been a favorite since I could remember. I recently have started a sketchbook strictly artist's renditions of Usagi and I wish I could record what all of them say, Most say, "I've never done a Usagi, this will be a first, i'm totally excited" others, "Wow, this is refreshing, it's great to do something other than X-men, Batman, superman, spiderman, etc", so that being said I have reserved the first page for you Mr Sakai, and I defintely would like to commision a piece from you by convention time in Atlanta and buy some art, just can't tell the wife how much I really am going to spend on your stuff, LOL, hoping to see you in atlanta and I will post a few pics of Usagi, two of my favorites Kagan Mcleod "Infinite Kung Fu" and Barry Kitson (Hulk, Spiderman, etc, great water color.)
Thanks for your time and sorry for the long read, can't you tell I'm getting excited for this

I too am now confirmed! Purchased my ticket over the weekend. My focus will be Usagi, Usagi, Usagi! Although I may take time to enjoy some other things...khyron82 wrote:I'm now confirmed to be going, but my attention is going to be split between The Rabbit and The Mouse.Todd Shogun wrote:Looks like I'll be attending WonderCon this year. I just added the San Diego Comic Fest (October 19-21). It is an "old school" comic convention, being put together by a few of the San Diego Con founders and original committee members. However, it is not associated with the SD Con itself. This will be the first year it is being held, and they are limiting attendance to a thousand or so.
They want to bring back some of the fun of the old con when anyone could sit with someone like Jack Kirby and just talk, or even have lunch with some of your favorite pros. I remember Sergio serenading everyone at poolside--at 2 in the morning, and watching Burne Hogarth doing a huge drawing of Tarzan during the art auction. When they describe it as "old school" they mean it. Mark Evanier is listed as the Fan Guest of Honor.
Here is their website:

It should be fun.

Re: Boston Comic-Con?
I was at the Boston show last year. I'm not returning this year. Maybe next, if I am invited. Sergio was listed as a guest this year, but has to back out because of medical issues. Maybe they will invite both of us for 2013. I really enjoy traveling with him.godzillamonster wrote:Hey Stan,

Re: 2012 Convention schedule
Hotel reservations for Comic-con International: San Diego will open March 29 at 9 AM Pacific time.

I suggest you look at the list of hotels beforehand, and pick out your top 10 choices. That will make it much easier and faster when you actually register.

Re: 2012 Convention schedule
Really looking forward to the next time you'll be in the midwest for a Con. I met you when I was younger at one of the Mid-Ohio Cons and you were hands down the most outgoing and open of all of the Cartoonists and Artist in Artists Alley. You also were kind enough to draw a sketch for me in my journal. Looking forward to the day I can introduce my Daughter to you. Thank you for all that you do for your fans.

Okay time for this shogun to yell and complain out loud. I had my choices sent up at 9:06AM and still ended up not getting a hotel. Apparently a lot of people (besides myself) are furious. With no place to stay, Comic-con won't be happening for this 25-year SDCC veteran. I had no problem last year. I got the Marriott Marquis, right next door. Did the exact same thing in the same amount of time.
I used to avoid having to use the con's online hotel-booking by going through my San Diego-based company (Sempra Energy). However, starting last year I could not get a hotel for the con because all rooms were "unavailable", even though I tried booking almost a year before. So I had no choice but to use SDCC's process.
How crazy is it that getting a hotel for the con is now even more difficult than obtaining a badge?
