I was acquainted with him when he lived in LA. I first saw his work in Heavy Metal #1, and right then I saw he was a genius. The concept, the storytelling, and the artwork were new and daring.
The most intimidating project I ever worked on was for the Visions of Arzach portfolio in which more than 50 artists were invited to create visual tributes. Forget that my piece was to run with the likes of Hayo Miyazaki, Brian Bolland, Richard Corben, Katsuhiro Otomo, and others. What really scared me, was that this was for Moebius!

I never knew there was a tribute by other artists to moebius arzach...or was that a personal gift for the man and not printed and released?great to hear though that there is such a thing!
wow, I really wish moebius the best for his next journey, it hasn't been long ago, somewhere around a year maybe that I read an interesting interview with him and then tried to find more books from him...I have the first few issues of heavy metal with his arzach excerpts, too and always loved it...
yesterday night I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY3Rf0i9hgU
and it inspired me so much to work on my next page that now it is already done and even works better than the others so far, too...so I want to thank him for that!;)
rest in piece moebius!

It was first published as a series of portfolios by Tundra, then later as a hardcover by Kitchen Sink Press in 1993. It was also picked up by a number of European publishers.coolray85 wrote:I never knew there was a tribute by other artists to moebius arzach...or was that a personal gift for the man and not printed and released?great to hear though that there is such a thing!
