Sketchbook #10?
As usual, I hope to print a new UY Sketchbook in time for the San Diego Comic-con.
The first couple contained mostly character designs, thumbnails, and sketches. Sketchbooks 3 and 9 had step-by-step looks at how I create a story. Another had an alternate ending to a story.
What would you like to see in Sketchbook 10? Or, what is your favorite sketchbook so far?

Ooooo! Ooooo! Mr. Sakai! Mr. Sakai! (in my best Horseshack voice imitation...)
I would absolutely LOVE to see the release of the watercolor sketchbook which you had considered doing this past spring!
Something which illustrates the working relationship which you and Tom Luth share for the color work on Usagi, not only the covers of new issues but also the occassional short story released in color or from the old Mirage days.

I'm just asking about the black and white sketchbook series.
The color sketchbook is on hold. Actually, most of the watercolor art is at a publisher right now, deciding what, if anything, we will do with it.

My vote is for more Sergio & Stan travel diary comics. And don't let Usagi get away with killing you any more. Maybe a "Marvel"-like Team Up sketches with Usagi and different characters you like.
I think 3 was my favorite sketchbook so far but this is a good excuse to look through them again. Peace, maka

maybe something with guest artwork/your rendition of their characters/their rendition of your characters. i'd be interested in people such as sergio aragones, peter laird, stan lee, etc. just a thought.

Re: Sketchbook #10?
Maybe an illustrated travel report of your recent voyage to the land of the midnight sun and how you managed to see so many bears?
Re: Sketchbook #10?
I enjoy the Usagi "on location" sketches. I think we've seen him in Poland, Brazil, Pittsburgh (a wee bit early) and some in Japan.
I also liked sketchbook #3. A nice travel story, commissions and unseen short stories (at least to me). It's not that I don't like the thumbnails, but I would prefer more unseen sketches along the lines of sketchbook #7. I've grown to love the loose style.
How about reprinting a page or two of Ten Little Critters from that Rowrbrazzle magazine? I'm going to be embarrassed if you already have and I've forgotten about it.
The Adventures of lil Stan makes me smile every time I look at it.

Re: Sketchbook #10?
I don't own all the sketchbooks but I think #9 could aybe even be my personal favourite out of the ones I have...I support steves idea about the sergio and stan travel reports!...
not knowing any of the nilson groundthumper stories I would love to see some of that included in a sketchbook..
no matter what they end up with, they always are such a joy to get and get back into...

I get a guilty thrill seeing Usagi and other favorite characters "out of character." Sketches of Usagi as an unnamed western gunslinger, or Gen interacting with a computer are unexpected and great fun.

Re: Sketchbook #10?
The covers to the sketchbooks are always my favorite thing about each edition.
1. I have always wished Dark Horse would produce a custom Usagi Yojimbo chess set. So, for that to happen you will need some character sketches of each character: King Usagi, Queen Tomoe, Knight Gen, Rook Katsuichi, etc...These could be divided into a black/villains set (King Jei, Neko ninja pawns)and a white/heroes set.
2. I would also love to see sketches of Usagi with Captain Carrot and the Amazing Zoo Crew, TMNT, Mice Templar/Mouseguard characters and maybe some other heroes portrayed as anthropomorphic characters with Usagi...(i.e. Batman as a real bat-man, Catwoman, Wolverine, Sabretooth, etc)

Dear Readers,
Trevis Woods' chess idea is genius.

I wish Dark Horse would make a second edition of the Usagi Yojimbo hats.
Sketchbook #10 could be about Ten Little Critters' Terry Miyamoto (investigative journalist) meets Space Usagi.
Best wishes to all!

I agree. That has to be one of the coolest Usagi items out there.go wrote:I wish Dark Horse would make a second edition of the Usagi Yojimbo hats.
In case someone doesn't know what we're talking about.

I wear the Usagi hat on my hikes up the Mt Wilson Trail.
I'll ask Diana if it is possible to do another edition of the UY cap to help promote the return in 2013. However, DH has been very cautious about any type of merchandising lately.

The cap is one of the few things I'm missing so I'd welcome another batch of them
