Stan Sakai video interview clips at Discover Nikkei

Post by Maka »

Stan Sakai was born in Kyoto, Japan, and raised in Hawai‘i. Sansei illustrator and writer Stan Sakai is known for his creation of the popular comic book character, “Usagi Yojimbo” in 1984. Since 1987, a series of comic books have detailed the adventures of Miyamoto Usagi, a samurai rabbit living in the late 16th and early 17th Century. Sakai is known for his incorporation of actual Japanese history and culture, once winning an award for “skillful weaving of facts and legends into his work.” An exhibition of his work was organized by the Museum in 2011. (August 2012)

Awesome interviews, neat how they are broken down into such nice little "subject" clips. Thanks, Maka, for posting the links here and on facebook!

Can anyone who attended the museum exhibit say whether these clips are from the video documentry which was shown at the exhibit?

The movie was different, If I recall correctly. I could be wrong, maybe they just cut it up for on-line viewing. But I seem to remember different people praising Stan's work and as a person throughout the movie. It remember feeling proud after watching the video (for Stan's success - another Japanese-American man done good :).

I took my parents, my sister's family and a high school buddy to the exhibit when we went. My dad and mom saw the movie and the said something like, "He's really made it, hasn't he." YES! He has. :)

A few of these segments, or parts of them, were in the JANM documentary. The rest of the ten and a half minutes were of interviews at the San Diego Con by myself, Scott Shaw, Stan Lee, Sergio Aragones, Max Allan Collins, Geof Darrow, Mark Evanier, Mike Richardson, and various fans.
