Sharon's numbers were not great yesterday, but she really wanted to make it to the CAPS holiday party. Every year the Comics Arts Professional Society rents out a bowling alley, imports a truckload of food, and has it's annual bacchanalia of gluttony, strikes, and splits (or, in my case, gutter balls). We all had a great time, though half of my time was spent preventing grandson 18 month old Leo from running down the lanes to knock over the pins. He got to pick a gift, even though we did not bring one for the gift exchange. He got a dancing Donald Duck which he enjoyed dancing with. As far as we're concerned, it was the best gift he could have chosen as it kept him happy and occupied for awhile.
Sharon had a great time sitting with Sergio's wife, Charlene. I had thought we would stay for maybe an hour before Sharon got too tired, but we were there for almost two. But, no, Sharon did not bowl.
Leo would have bowled a perfect game if I had let him run down the lane to knock over the pins. He tried lifting a couple of balls, but they were a bit too heavy. Maybe next year.
Of course, Leo fell in love with Sergio, and enjoyed bonking heads with him.

Aww, Leo is cute! Glad to hear he likes Sergio. Great name, BTW.
I've never gone bowling with my little 2 1/2 year old nephew, but I imagine it being a similar experience.

We have been receiving lots of great donations from friends, acquaintances, and even people we don't know. As Sharon wrote, "We're overwhelmed. Thank you."
Here is the update on the CAPS auction/donation.
Garage Art Studio: Sakais Auctuion Update
Saturday, December 14, 2013
http://garageartstudio.blogspot.com/201 ... e.html?m=1
Artwork is rolling in for the HELP STAN SAKAI AUCTION. This photo is just some of the amazing stuff that's showed up at the studio these past few weeks. The exact auction start date hasn't been nailed down yet but if you're looking for a time frame, try and have your stuff in by the beginning of February, 2014. There's no solid deadline though-- the costs are ongoing, so this fundraising effort will also be ongoing.
Also, if you have no art to donate, the paypal donation page is back up and running. Thanks for your patience. If you were able to donate before the paypal glitch, Stan and Sharon have received that money. If you've been waiting to give-- here's your chance.
Thanks so much for checking in. Happy holidays.

It's another one of those days where Sharon's blood pressure is down, and her blood sugar is up. She is responsive enough, but not alert. These are the days when we're on pins and needles.
Her left eye is paralyzed so it is always closed. She has gotten so that her right eye almost never closes--not even when sleeping. It's scary sometimes to come into her room to find her staring straight ahead, unfocused. I don't know at first if there is something wrong, or if she is just sleeping.

Christmas Eve chemotherapy. The best gift is that Sharon is home, and with family.
It was a beautiful day in LA. Here is the view of Griffith Park outside her window. The nurses are great about giving us a private room to accommodate her wheelchair and oxygen tanks.
The window really needs to be cleaned, but you can still see the Griffith Park Observatory.

It's one of the few dresses she wears. It buttons up completely in the front, so she does not have to slip it over her head and over the trach tube.

That's Ralphie from Jean Shepard's A Christmas Story!
I added the eye patch for effect. The actor, Peter Billingsley was executive producer on Iron Man, and even did a cameo. Little Ralphie has come a long way.

Hannah baked me a box of macarons. I often get them when I travel to France, but it's difficult to find good ones here. She is also baking a pumpkin, an apple, and (maybe) a lemon meringue pies. AND she is preparing dinner. What a great Christmas gift!
These are the fancy macarons she made to give out to her friends, but I like mine better because I have more.

Please pray for our grandson, Leo. He stopped breathing in his sleep. I called 911, while his father administered CPR. He was taken to emergency. He has a very weak pulse, and has not regained consciousness. He is breathing with a machine.
He was sick the last couple of days but only mildly, and his energy level was high as usual.

Leo is 20 months old. His pulse, which had gone down into the 30s, is now normal. His blood pressure is also good. He has not regained consciousness, and still breathes with a machine. He was just transferred to another hospital. His parents are going to stay with him. I've staying home to continue care for Sharon.
Here's a picture of Leo a few months ago with his Justice League shirt and bread.

Please continue to hold our 20 month old grandson, Leo, in prayer. The next 24 hours are critical, but the prognosis would be better if he regained consciousness. There is also the very big chance of brain damage from lack of oxygen when he stopped breathing. However, his pulse and blood pressure is good now, but he still cannot breathe on his own. The doctors and staff are doing their best, but we are praying for a miracle.

I've been debating whether to post a photo of Leo, but I want to show just a little of what he is going through, and how beautiful and perfect he is. I am his best friend. He shows how much he loves me every day, and he knows how much I love him. As soon as he wakes up, he makes a bee line for the studio to give me a big hug. Many times, he will wave his parents away just so he can spend a bit more time with his Grandpa. Please continue prayers. This was in the ER of the first hospital. He is my Buddy.

I think this has to be the saddest message that Stan has ever posted on his Facebook page, and when I think of how heavy my heart feels right now, it is just a fraction of what Stan and his family are feeling!
The outpouring of support being posted on Stan's Facebook page is tremendous. So much love, condolences and sympathy being sent to Stan and his family from literally hundreds and hundreds of friends and fans.
This picture, posted by Devin Oishi, perfectly captures the essence of the special relationship between grandfather and grandson which Stan and Leo shared...

Sorry for posting some of my own comments in here, I usually prefer to keep these posts limited to what Stan has posted on facebook himself....

Grandson Leo was tested yesterday and it was confirmed today that he is brain dead. He is exactly 20 months old. He lived such a short life, but I'm so glad he shared it with me. It was a good day for him yesterday, and he died without pain and peacefully. Thank you, Buddy. Grandpa loves you. So much.
This is one of my all time favorite pictures of him.

Leo really enjoyed the CAPS bowling party where this picture was taken. He especially liked trying to run down the lanes to know over the pins, but having his Grandpa stop him. He picked a dancing Donald Duck music box/ornament in the gift exchange. It was the best gift he could have chosen. He had fun dancing with Donald, and continued to do so for the next few days.

Leo was a great kid. He had a gentle, loving spirit. He was fearless. He laughed a lot. He loved the wind through his hair. Cutie tangerines was his favorite treat. He was curious and could figure things out. He was smart, a lot smarter than I was at his age, I bet. He had a short life, and I am blessed that he was a part of mine. You would have loved him, and, I am sure, he would have loved you.

Leo's favorite treat was Cuties tangerines. He and I would take a run over to Sprouts Market every week and buy a 5 pound bag, along with other groceries. I would always let him pick out one thing in the market that he could choose and hold on to. Once it was a potato, the biggest in the pile. Another time it was an onion. Once he picked out a box of mini ice cream sandwiches. I would not let him hold it, but he got to eat one in the car. Last week, he chose this kabocha pumpkin. It got to the point that the checkers would know not to bag his special item, but to give it back to him so he can carry it to the car.
He knew where we kept the cuties in the refrigerator. He would open the door, and try to pull out the drawer and call me over. Last night I ate the last of the cuties. I miss you so much, Leo.
