Today's MRI really took a lot out of Sharon, and tired her out a lot more than even the last one three months ago. I went in with her, but was not allowed to bring my iPad this time. I did bring a book, though--Marvel Comics, The Untold Story. One of my favorite memories with Stan Lee is sitting alone together in a convention Green Room, and talking about the 60's Bullpen. That's the time that I was really pulled into comics.
The MRI machine must be one of the noisiest machines ever made, and makes a whole range of sounds. I had to wear ear plugs in the room.
It sounded like lab equipment from those cheesy 50's sci-fi movies.

Sharon had chemo therapy today. It always wipes her out after.

I received an advance copy of the 47 Ronin hard cover book. It looks great, if I do say so. I love that textured and embossed cover. I also like the uncoated interior paper stock. It really gives the feel of the old Japanese woodblock prints.
Yes, that is my ink stained drawing table. It's almost time to change the Bristol board cover sheet, but there is still some white space.

We saw Sharon's oncologist today to discuss the results of Saturday's MRI. There is no appreciable growth in her brain tumor, which is the best we can realistically hope for with the type of tumor she has. So the ongoing chemo therapy seems to be helping. She has developed a couple of new pains, though.

I haven't posted any of my food pictures in awhile, mainly because I haven't had time to do much cooking. However, this is tonight's dinner--Rosemary salmon, rice and roasted veggies. I finally used that kabocha pumpkin that grandson Leo had picked out on our very last shopping trip to Sprouts. I baked it with Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, Japanese sweet potato, carrots, and red bell pepper. I had a small salad on the side.

Leo's tree
Twenty month old grandson Leo's funeral was two weeks ago. I had written about how Cutie tangerines were his favorite treat and how we would go shopping for them every week. Last week a good friend gave us a Cutie tree! I planted it this morning in a row with our grapefruit, orange, and tangelo trees.
And for you Groo fans out there: Yes, I did use mulch, as any fool can plainly see.

I received an advance copy of my Nilson Groundthumper and Hermy collection from Dark Horse. Nilson predates Usagi, first appearing in Albedo 1, whereas Usagi's first appearance was in Albedo 2. This is about 110 pages, full color, hardcover with a retail price of about $15 US.

Can't wait to get this. Does anyone know if it collects all of their appearances in this one book, including the most recent Dark Horse Presents issues?

I'm more than half finished with Usagi Yojimbo: Senso #4 (of 6), and I'm really enjoying it. I don't know if it is this particular storyline of Usagi vs aliens or because I had been on hiatus from Usagi for almost a year as I worked on 47 Ronin, but I'm having a great time. Here is a double page splash from issue 3.

We went to a friend's memorial service at our church today. Halfway through I noticed Sharon had a funny look, so wheeled her out to the foyer. She was non-responsive. I asked a deacon to call a nurse friend of ours who I had noticed was also at the service. She looked at Sharon and called 911 for us. They were there within minutes, and by then Sharon was coherent again. They took all her vitals, including an EKG, and everything was in the normal range. She probably passed out from dehydration (as had happened before) or exhaustion. We opted to take her home. We called palliative care when we got home, and they told us to keep an eye on her. The fun never stops at the Sakai household.

How is Sharon doing now? You have developed a sixth sense that we have after many years of nursing. God bless you and keep all safe and healthy.Stan Sakai wrote: 6 hours ago
Sharon is okay now. She is responsive to questions, and I just took her blood pressure and it is in the normal range.
Stan Sakai wrote: 2 minutes ago
It's been about 10 hours, and her numbers and responsiveness remain very good.

Chemo therapy day for Sharon. It used to be that she would read (usually Little Lulu) during her chemo sessions. The last few times, though, she's been too exhausted to do anything but sleep.

I sent in Usagi Yojimbo: Senso, part 4 today. I really am having fun with this. It's a 6-issue Usagi mini-series independent of the regular on-going series. It's accessible for new readers, and has a lot of surprises for long time fans.
