In addition to his "Adventure Time" cover, Chris Houghton has donated to CAPS this original page from his western comic book "Reed Gunther" created with his brother Shane. To see more about the adventures of "Reed Gunther", visit http://reedgunther.com/
Of course, this gives me an excuse to post a cool sketch I got from Chris Houghton at the last MCCC that I attended....

CAPS Stan Sakai Auction piece
by DarneLang (January 21, 2014)
"Before I forget (again) to post it, this is the piece that I sent in for the Stan Sakai auction. I have always loved Stan's work and I really hope this small piece can help his house hold in someway. I was considering drawing his most well known character Usagi Yojimbo, but decided to shine a little light on another one of my favorite characters of his, Tomoe Ame."

This whopping huge 18x24" original piece of Usagi Yojimbo and the Adam West Batman was created especially for CAPS by "Batman 66" comic book artist Ruben Procopio. This exciting standoff was created with permanent marker, ink and Copic marker gray tones. Will Batman and Usagi defeat the evil samurai, Catwoman, Riddler and Penguin? Or will they all just be sold to benefit Sharon & Stan Sakai? Tune in next time to this same Bat-time, same Bat-channel to learn their fate!
WIP. Here is the black and white original for my contribution to the auction benefiting Stan Sakai, the creator of Usagi Yojimbo comic. The original will be put in an auction organized by the Cartoon CAPS - Comic Art Professional Society ( more information when it comes...) Stan's wife Sharon has been very ill and has incurred a lot of medical bills. We're trying to hep ease that burden for Stan. I am doing a color version of this and will be posting it soon. If you want to help out the Sakai family, check out my friend Tone Rodriguez's blog. http://garageartstudio.blogspot.com/201 ... sakai.html

This is one of two fun pieces given to CAPS' Sakai fundraiser by Michael Jantze, creator of the comic strip "The Norm". Hopefully that is not the remains of a rabbit lunch on Norm's plate. Michael's work goes beyond the comic strip into realms of animation, illustration and film work. You can see more at http://jantze.com/

I'm donating a special digital print on watercolor paper to help Stan Sakai and his family. Since Lucy has an overactive imagination and a huge love of reading, I decided to do a heartfelt homage to the wonderful character Usagi Yojimbo. His pose is my interpretation of one of my favorite cover images (#123). I think this would be an amazing little duo of warriors but I'm a little biased…

Usagi Yojimbo: Support for Stan and Sharon Sakai
This is a piece I recently illustrated to benefit Usagi Yojimbo creator Stan Sakai and his wife Sharon. They both recently lost their grandson, and have also been struggling with Sharon's debilitating illness which has let to costly medications and around the clock care.
I've always been a fan of Stan's work and wanted to donate something for the Cartoon Art Professional Society auction and fundraiser. I met him years ago at a comic book convention and he was a very friendly and approachable individual. If the auction is still going on (and I'm not too late) hopefully it would be available for sale.
I created this traditionally with India Ink and watercolor.

Here's something you don't see every day, an original "Atari Force" comic page by Josè Luis Garcìa-Lòpez! DC Comics' "Atari Force", derived from video games by the Atari company, was a mid 1980s monthly comic that ran for about 20 issues. Of course, fans know that Garcìa-Lòpez has had his hand on many other characters over the years including Jonah Hex, Batman, and Superman to name a few, but today Atari Force is here to help the Sakais! There is a fan page of Josè's art here on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JoseLuisGarciaLopezFans

Featuring Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, this is a beautiful parody of Frank Frazetta's well known Buck Rogers cover from "Famous Funnies" drawn by CAPS' own Bill Morrison who even hand drew all the lettering on this. Bill created the art at twice the size it would have been printed at as a comic book, just the way Frazetta would have done it. An experienced editor with Matt Groening's Bongo Comics company, Bill will be editing the Usagi Yojimbo tribute book project that CAPS and Dark Horse Comics announced last Friday. (If you missed the press release, you can find it on our Wall.) To see more of Bill's great work, visit his public FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bill-Mor ... 5312745571
