Brendan H. Wright--I finished the story for UY 148 and will send it off to you later this week, along with the cover for this and the next issue.
For all you others, here is a step-by-step look at one of the panels. It is a third tier panel, on 2-ply 500 series Strathmore bristol.
Very rough pencils, using a 2-H mechanical pencil lead.
Finished pencils with a HB lead.
Outline inks using a Koh-i-noor Art Pen and Badger Black Opaque ink (old formula).
Finished panel with details and textures.
Meanwhile, on Facebook.....

i love the Usagi Yojimbo Saga #6 cover. colours may be a bit off but they give a weird vibe, like something happening around late afternoon, twilight hours.
i really appreciate the step by step Stan has shown. doing art in high school, our teacher just handed out a topic and some water colours and we were supposed to draw. never got any instructions whatsoever, he was basically getting a paycheck for warming his seat. looking at Stan's work I can see some of the mystery lifted on how to produce a nice watercolor.

Here's the cover for Usagi 150, Death of a Tea Master. Usagi's first encounter with a European, and it is not a pleasant one.
As usual, Koh-i-noor ArtPen with Badger Black Opaque ink (old formula) on 2-ply 500 series Strathmore bristol cold press. 11x17 inches with a 10x15.5 image area.
Here are the pencils.

Wow, I like that cover
(Drat, not going to be in a position to buy it! Probably)
I'm guessing Spanish here for the fellow on the cover.

This is my piece for the Association of American Publishers' Get Caught Reading campaign.
The entire campaign is images of authors or characters reading. Of course, I wanted to draw Usagi and his association with the samurai and Japanese culture. I considered things like Mt Fuji or a castle, but wanted to keep it simple. The swords, maple leaves, and stone lantern worked well.
HB pencils on 4-ply 500 series cold press Strathmore.
Inked with Koh-i-noor ArtPen and Badger Black Opaque ink (old formula).
Foreground masked and background painted.
Mask removed and figures painted.
It is a simple rubber cement and tracing paper and I use an X-acto knife to cut the mask. You can buy professional masks, but this is much cheaper.
Grass and lantern painted.

And the obvious question is, how can any of us get our hands on the eventually publication/print of this?

So far all of usagi's encounters with European culture has been negative. I wonder if he'll have any positive encounters.
Still I doubt usagi would kill that European since such an act would result in some dire consequences for him! If I remember my research any Japanese killing a Dutch foreigner (other foreigners were fair game as Japan mainly traded with the Dutch and other foreigners were banned from entering Japan and were to be executed. Japanese were forbidden from leaving or returning under the pain of death) would have to commit ritual suicide especially if the foreign ambassadors and merchants demanded justice for the death. An excellent example would be where several samurai killed several french sailors. When the french demanded justice the samurai committed ritual suicide. Of course the french captain was so shocked and disturbed by the self executions that he begged that the remaining samurai be pardoned. Of course this isn't a good example as this incident took place in the late 1800s.
Sorry if I got off topic y'all. I'm looking forward to seeing the return of both Stan and usagi.

Okay, this makes me feel better about not being at Wondercon. We'll get some advances out to you soon, Stan Sakai!
The first two are out, and I just got an advance of the third one. I think the second hardcover is still available, but the first is sadly long gone. However, there are also paperback editions, and they too are quite attractive. They are a bigger trim size than the older trades, and they include color cover galleries and color stories.
It's really been my pleasure. Just putting in everything I'd want as a fan.
