General discussion about Usagi Yojimbo, the comics, the stories, the characters, collectibles, TV appearances, Stan Sakai, Space Usagi, Nilson & Hermy, and all other related topics.
I have a bit of collector in me, that needs certain specials like Yokai and The Art of Usagi Yojimbo, but I'd like to keep up and plug some gaps with my reading enjoyment, and I think that means finally jumping into digital comics. What's the best way? Direct from Dark Horse? Through a distributor like Comixology? Is there a handy previous discussion on the Dojo?
I have digital comics in the Dark Horse app, comixology, and various via humblebundle.com (which is having a 30th anniversary bundle this week until Wednesday, which includes Yokai) which I use the app Comic Zeal to read . Dark horse comics were not original available on Comixology. I like having my digital comics in one place but I usually wait for sales to buy the digital versions. Usually around the end of the year for Dark Horse has sales for a $1 each or bundles. That said, comixology has more digital comic selection and some great sales too. It is easy to get comics onto you phone via the comixology app and the dark horse app. You can download them if you have wifi or don't mind paying for data streaming. The Comic Zeal app is a bit more complicated. You have to download the comic in your browser and then import it ("open in") Comic Zeal app. But if the file is too big, sometimes I can't download it in mobile safari on my iPhone. Then I have download it on my computer and either transfer it via wifi network or save into a DropBox folder and then open the file using the Dropbox app on my phone, then "open in comic zeal app. These are for humblebundle comics. It is a little more work but you can't beat the prices of humblebundle.
Let me know if you have any questions. Digital isn't as fun as holding a comic in you hands. But the advantage of carrying / accessing all your comics in your pocket is a big plus. Peace, maka
I have to admit that Digital Comics are the one format which I do not buy Usagi Yojimbo in.
Floating around in a cloud somewhere are the digital copies of Usagi Yojimbo Classic which I bought from Dark Horse way back when they first started releasing Usagi in digital, but I have not bought much beyond that.
I think it would be a different story if I can buy them in digital and save them directly to my computer.

Humblebundle comics work that way. Some comics (image is one example) allows you to download DRM free digital copies of their comics on comixology. So Yokai is available to download on your computer in the latest bundle. I don't know if Dark Horse allows you to do that yet on comixology. They don't allow you to do it on dark horse app or website (as you know). Peace, maka
Thanks, Maka! I've bought that DH Humblebundle - there are a few other comics there that I've wanted to check out - but I'll still search out a hardcover copy of Yokai, I think. For one thing, so I can get a good look at those big double-page spreads outside single-page epubs! (On that note, I couldn't find the Comic Zeal app on the Google Play Store, but the Moonreader app I already have handles them well enough) I think I can live with DH singles existing in cloud storage, too.
