Okay, he "died" in my contribution to the 2004 San Diego Comic Con program book, which is reprinted in UY 79 on sale now.

This issue also features two short stories--one starring Inazuma and Keiko, and the other with Gen and Stray Dog. Both these stories serve as ground work for a longer, more complex story down the line.

GEN DIES!?!?!? OMG ROFLMAO!!1!1!one!!

I just came back from the 10th Salón del Manga and got for a friend of mine the just released UY Book 7 in Spanish (even if UY is not manga, the Salón is becoming more and more a multimedia convention about everything related to Japan). Unluckily, the shop which I buy UY comic-books from didn't have a stand there, so I'll have to wait until next weekend to get the last issue. I still managed to get the latest Lone Wolf & Cub (#11 of 20, the Spanish edition is really thick) and the latest Blade Of The Inmortal (#14). And some Fullmetal Alchemist keychains

. And fanzines (there are so many really talented people out there waiting for their chance to become professional! Some fanzines are amazing!)

But does Gen's head a splode?

So he is not really dead in the continuity of the comic, right? My comic store was all sold out of the latest issue already. We're going to have to subscribe!

No, he's not really dead. It's a three panel gag that I did for the San Diego Comic Con's program book:

Usagi and Tomoe are rushing to rescue Gen who has been captured by the murderous Neko Ninja clan. When they get to him, he's already dead with one of those floating skulls above his head.

Tomoe: "See--? I told you we shouldn't have made a detour to the 2004 Comic-con International: San Diego!"

Usag (looking sheepish)i: "But they're celebrating my 20th anniversary!"

We reprinted that page in the letters column of the new UY.

Any chance of reprinting the "Usagi Yojimbo meets Godzilla" page you did for the San Diego Comic Con Program some time back? I always thought that was a great gag lost in the pages of the convention program.

With Godzilla's 50th birthday and being added to the hollywood walk of stars (whatever they call it), it is a great time to republish it.

It was reprinted in one of the Art of UY comics from Radio a few years back. We took out the word "Godzilla" though, because we did not want to encounter any trademark conflicts. The San Diego Con was allowed to use that trademark for the program book, but that right did not carry over into subsequent reprintings of the artwork.

I did read that Godzilla will get his star on the Walk of Fame in November. King Kong was robbed.

I don't care much for crooning, but there's Frank Sinatra on the Walk. It's about contribution to the artform, mate. I suspect Goji is getting a star based on the number of works in his career, or maybe for having the guts to show his face in public after Godzilla's Revenge, but King Kong has a longer history, and broke a lot of ground in Hollywood for people of height. I suppose if Georges Méliès doesn't have a star, Kong's not likely to get one either.

Just got the actual issue.
(Spoilers Ahead)
And I was blown away even before I picked it up. You wouldn't think that a cover that featured an anthropomorphic rhino would do that, but the visual alone was one that said a lot without having to say anything.
And then I opened the cover. And was blown away again. I thought it was going to be a rather predictable story--Gen and Stray Dog finally team up against Inazuma and have a knock-down brawl. But no--Stan surpassed the opportunity for action and put in depth instead. Inazuma fighting Jei's influence has given me hope for the character and at the same time creeped me out, especially when it took over again. Then it segued to the more light-hearted Gen tale and displayed the Rhino using his common sense instead of lust for money (Most especially after he decides to give up the chase when he learns Inazuma might have some supernatural ties).

Thumbs up for a comic book that took me by surprise and reminded me why I love the medium.

The Inazuma story was the big draw for me... we finally get more BG on Jei's origins... Stan, you realize that with a teaser story like this you gotta make with the goods on Jei soon...

Nice joke, I was about to have a heart attack thinking Gen was dead.I have yet to check out many of the issues, but I am glad that there is more showing of Stray Dog. I may be wrong, but it seems funny.Stray Dog is a samurai doing honorable things by dishonorable actions, and Inazuma is a samurai due to dishonorable events. Makes you wonder.
