New Usagi and Ninja Turtles crossover comic coming
I started an actual topic because i accidentally posted in an existing thread. But man am i excited for this!
I decided to stop buying the issues for IDW's TMNT and just wait for the trades, but with this announced i want to be caught up before i read it. So its back to buying issue for this series.
I think what i like most is that Stan is using the IDW version and acknowledging that these are different from the Mirage turtles. IDW's turtles have a much stronger connection to feudal Japan so it will be interesting to see how they interact.

SPOILER..... sort ofMayhem wrote:Well, don't keep us in suspense thenjabba359 wrote:I was told by either Tom Waltz or Bobby Curnow (I was talking to both at the same time, so I forget who told me) that the hardcover would have a different cover than the regular edition. So that should make a regular cover, hardcover variant, David Petersen variant, and *cough, cough*...where's Grusagi?
since it's not really a secret anymore, here is sergio's idea for his variant cover.
usagi in the middle battling ninjas on the left and bottom of the cover with the turtles in the back top right of the cover eating pizza.
this is not the final version, he could change it if he comes up with something different. still a work in progress. hopefully they'll have all variants at sdcc!

So you're saying there could be multiple variants then?

from sergio, no just the one variant cover. he just isn't quite finished with it just yet.Mayhem wrote:So you're saying there could be multiple variants then?
more likely than not it won't deviate much from the rough sketch he drew.

Nice! Thanks grusagi! Maybe the IDW will do three covers (like the Archie comics have been doing) where the variants don't cost any more than the "regular" edition. Or there are some that require a store buyer's incentive. It's hard to say. But for this fan, it will finally be worth it to me to buy more than one copy due to the different covers.

I believe there will be another artist who will do a variant, for a total number of three. This is not counting the different covers for the HC and comic book versions of the crossover.Maka wrote:

1. Stan Sakai
2. David Petersen
3. Sergio Aragones
4. ?
Could the third variant be:
Scott Shaw!
Guy Davis
Chris Schweizer
Mark Morse

I wanted to limit the number of variants, and I certainly did not want a blank sketch cover variant. I really do not like to draw on those.

I believe there will be five versions (though you may have been referring to just the comic book covers when you listed four):Steve Hubbell wrote:One regular and three variant covers?Stan Sakai wrote:

1. Stan Sakai (hardcover)
2. Stan Sakai (comic book cover)
3. David Petersen
4. Sergio Aragones
5. Mystery person
I'd like the third variant to be by:
Mike Mignola
Jeff Smith
Bill Sienkiewicz
Kevin Eastman (I know he does a lot of variant covers for the other TMNT comics, including the Batman/TMNT crossover, so it seems natural he'd do one for this crossover)

The back cover to The Sakai Project is one of my favorite Usagi pieces by another artist.jabba359 wrote:Bill Sienkiewicz

Kevin Eastman is probably the most likely....jabba359 wrote:I believe there will be five versions (though you may have been referring to just the comic book covers when you listed four):Steve Hubbell wrote:One regular and three variant covers?Stan Sakai wrote:

Eastman seems like safe bet. But what about Brian Hurtt? Stan has written the introduction to The Sixth Gun Book four HC. Lots of fun speculating. Peace, maka
Re: WonderCon - Plus Usagi/TMNT crossover!
Brian draws a cool Usagi. I remember him wondering why he wasn't asked to participate in The Sakai Project and then he said he may have been busy at the time. Or something like that.Maka wrote:Eastman seems like safe bet. But what about Brian Hurtt? Stan has written the introduction to The Sixth Gun Book four HC. Lots of fun speculating. Peace, maka

Re: WonderCon - Plus Usagi/TMNT crossover!
hello all:)
first of all, let me say: I am SO HAPPY about this news!sensei, I already don't want the story to end!!!hahahaha, 40 pages sound so tiny when you could feast on such a thing happily ever after I guess (so greedy I am)..but then again, 40 pages is a nice sum for telling a thick story..AND it comes close to the 40ish pages the of original eastman/laird turtles comics from the very start, so this feels right to me.
I love bothe the mirage turtles and usagi so much, it is a joy to know stan will be giving them a new adventure!oh, of course, these aren't even the mirage turtles..still, I am looking very forward to this!!also, as much as I love the mirage turtles, I absolutelly can't bring myself to like the idw versions of them, in that regard I am really interested to experience how sensei's superb storytelling and illustrating will make me love em.

I don't like these blank books either.but I wonder wen you say that you don't like to draw on those...is this because of their surface or because of the space?or something completely different?Stan Sakai wrote:I wanted to limit the number of variants, and I certainly did not want a blank sketch cover variant.
