I normally like to buy UY art and give money directly to Stan.

PART 1

Ok.... so I'm a little embarrassed to ask, but how's this whole Heritage Auctions thing work?

I'm a little slow at learning this stuff, especially since I'm not 'active' in this field.... I think I understand the proxy bidding, but the other bits confuse me:
This lot is in: 1 - Comics & Comic Art Session
(Lots 13001-13598) - 6:00 PM Central Time, Sunday, July 16, 2017.
(Proxy bidding ends ten minutes prior to the session start time. Live Proxy bidding on Heritage Live starts 24 hours before the live session begins and continues through the session.)

Auction Type
Sunday Internet Comics: No Floor or Phone Bidding (Mail, Fax, Internet, and Heritage Live). Proxy bidding ends ten minutes prior to the session start time. Live Proxy bidding on Heritage Live starts 24 hours before the live session begins and continues through the session. Check the Time Remaining on individual lots for details. These auctions are presented only online.
I guess this means I can put a bid in online, but there will be live bidding 24 hours before the auction ends?

PART 2

So I'm interested in this piece... has it been listed before? Does it keep getting relisted? Sorry, I didn't really check any dates previously so maybe earlier looks were all leading up to the current auction.

Then, a B&W version that had sold before, is numbered. But the colored version isn't - why not?... I thought the colored ones were the same as the B&W, or is there something I'm missing?

Image
lf (1) by Michael Foertsch, on Flickr

And my final dumb question, what do the colored versions go for? Again, I don't keep track of these sorts of things, so maybe I'll be out of the running before I even start...

Sorry for my vague questions, and thanks if anyone can help clarify things for me.

The color piece is hand colored (with watercolors) of the b/w print. The art is from A Quiet Meal from UY Book 1. There were a few with blue sky as pictured, and a few with a gray sky. I did not number all of them because I just did them a few at a time and forgot what the last number was. Yes, I colored them myself.

There is also a Dragon print that was the same--b/w and hand colored print. That was from the cover of UY #11 or 12 from Fantagraphics.

I think I found a few copies of the print when I moved to Temecula. They are probably in the basement somewhere.

Thank you for the information regarding the print Stan! :D

This print has been one of my favorites for a long time, but I've never bothered to pursue one.... I knew that you had colored them yourself, which is one reason I've been wanting one. My memory isn't always the best, so I keep forgetting the 'origin' of the print (I will take note now, "A Quiet Meal from UY Book 1"), but like I said, it is one of my favorite images of Usagi, since it is one of my earliest memories of Usagi.

If you ever find any of them in your basement, I'd certainly be interested in one!

Okay, I'll do my best here to explain heh... a lot of Heritage auctions are online only, but they are "live" in the sense that they operate like a normal auction, whereby people bid against each other in real time, and whoever bids highest wins, assuming no one else bids in the ten seconds since the last bid and the auction then closes. eBay is very much not a normal auction, that ends for sure at a certain time. Normal auctions carry on until no one bids any more. This next auction starts the live segment at 6pm CST on Sunday.

Prior to the auction itself, you can leave a proxy bid. Whoever has the highest bid here prior to the auction session for each item, that is what is carried through to the live section, that anyone bidding live has to beat to win the item. Effectively, people proxy bid if they can't be around for the actual auction itself, and sometimes these do win. More often though the live bidders go beyond the proxy. When it says live proxy bidding is available during the auction, it's to allow people who wanted to bid live on a future item, and suddenly find themselves unable to because something has cropped up (like an emergency), so they can still place a proxy on items after the point the live auction session has begun.

Heritage's auction bidding UI is fairly simple. At the top of the screen it has the item currently up for bid, and to the right of the item is a history of all the bids made on it so far. There are tabs present, allowing you to switch to just view the items you are watching for that auction, or a list to live proxy bid if need be. Below this window there are three buttons. The middle button allows you to enable and disable the other two buttons, useful in case you just want to watch and don't want to accidentally bid on anything just yet! The right button initiates a standard bid for the next increment amount. The left button is a "cut" bid, which is half the current increment, but it's only available once per item. At the bottom is a run down list of all the items in the current auction, which scrolls up as they are sold.

The online only auctions tend to run at a fairly brisk pace, so it's not unusual to get through 100-150 items per hour.

There was a darker version that I bid on about a month ago and I was the high bidder at $150. Then someone else placed a bid after the online portion had ended and decided not to pay. It was relisted for around $190 (Buy it Now) and I guess someone purchased it because it has been removed from the site.

EDIT: Go back to page 2 on this thread and you will see the gray version Stan is talking about. That is the one I thought I had won!

Okay, so maybe I'm not going crazy and I did see others before. I thought H. A. continued to show items after they've sold, but I guess that's not the case on all accounts.

I'm half wondering if the coloured one now up is the SAME one as before or not?

I don't think so. I think the earlier one was numbered and this one is not.

But, I might be mistaken.

Yeah, had another look and saw there was no number, as you say. Maybe he had two then?

REMEMBER when bidding in these type of auctions to understand the buyers premium AND the cost of postage.

The Quiet Meal print sold for around $155 (w/buyer's Premium).

I didn't bid.... mostly because I didn't want to be disappointed if I lost.
