General discussion about Usagi Yojimbo, the comics, the stories, the characters, collectibles, TV appearances, Stan Sakai, Space Usagi, Nilson & Hermy, and all other related topics.
I just realised my hotel has Nickelodeon. It's based off east coast broadcast time, apparently, as the guide is listing 6AM for TMNT (which is 9AM EST). Guess I'll be waking up early.
I thought the previews and clips that we've seen so far looked great, and now to hear that you guys like the actual episode, well, I can't wait to have the chance to watch it!
like you I am eagerly awaiting this episode.I guess I didn't realize it but this part of the show seems to be so special for usagi fans.I have only seen whatever glimpses people have been posting on youtube so far and keep checking the usual sites on which I can watch this show (this episode however hasn't been uploaded anywhere so far)..
from what I could see thus far I reckon they have changed jei's name to kai.any insight on why that change was made?
edit: I think I have found this out to be a misstake on the poster of the clip.but I could swera I heard jei say his name to be KAI as well for the first time:)hahaha, I guess I must be patient and thnk of something else befoe I get crazy waiting for my chance to watch usagi:)
Question: Since I will be buying these three episodes on iTunes for $2.99 an episode, any of you TMNT fans think it is with sporting the extra $11 to buy the whole season? Peace, maka
Amazing episode and easily the best cartoon adaptation of Usagi yet.
Loved seeing Stan's original artwork in the episode also!
Voice acting for Usagi was great and loved seeing Jei.
Cannot wait for the next two episodes!
Maka has the right idea...I will probably purchase these from ITunes also!
Stan I would love to hear how writing these episodes differed from writing the comic. Easier? Harder? Did you do rough drawings of the episodes to plan them out as you wrote it or did you write visual descriptions in with the dialogue so the animators could put your vision on the screen?
So that was pretty damn amazing. I just about died of joy at the sight of some Sakai artwork in the flashback. Also kudos to the character modelers for making Usagi's scar more apparent as an actual scar.
I'm hoping the next two episodes will show us a quieter moment where we can get to see more of the gentle, friendly side of Usagi (there is some of it at the campfire), because as much as I enjoy seeing him kick insane amounts of BADWORD, it's his demeanor OUTSIDE of combat that truly makes me love this character. The guy that'll take a moment to properly thank a Takoyaki salesman for his service, have a pleasant conversation or politely tell someone to back off before a fight breaks out.
But even without that, this is great so far, and Jei is just as terrifying as he should be. Seeing his first appearence adapted in the cold opening was great! And bonus points for letting him essentially take the role of Kakera. Aah, it all goes together so well!
WOW.
I watched the episode yesterday evening and it was terrific. My personal favourite parts were the opening scene with Jei, Stan's original artwork for the background story and the fight scenes, but the whole episode is very well put together. I can't wait to see the next two episodes.
It was so good to see Usagi on the screen again, I hope that in the future he'll get an own series.

Preacher did the same exact thing this week with the Saint of Killers backstory. Crazy coincidence.

I had no idea his swords were called Willow Branch and Young Willow. That would have been a good trivia question. I had to have known this at one time.
