Usagi Yojimbo: The Soundtrack

Post by Logan Myrddin »

Hey! How about an Usagi Yojimbo Soundtrack? We could compile all the midis in the listening room into like cd's! Or we could find a way to make better quality MP3s out of them! Perhaps this would be a good promotional idea or something? I'd buy it (but then, I'll buy just about anything with Usagi's face on it! )! I think I'm going to burn a personal copy! (Oh, is that allowed?) Just an idea.

Actually, since more MIDIs are not original work but "collected" from the Internet, this would be theft of intellectual property.

Since most of the original owners can't be located anymore, I guess there is no way to do this. OTOH, if people would send in original sounds, we could think about this (for example as a way to raise funds for the Dojo... for whatever we would need that :? )

It's a good idea. The funds could be used to fund contests or stuff like that. I've always wondered if there was some way to create a soundtrack to a book. You know, music that actually goes along with the storyline. (The problem would be one of pace, since you can't really count on everyone to read at the same speed...). Or, perhaps someone could do like BLIND GUARDIAN, a band that bases its lyrics on JRR Tolkien's works (except they would base it on USAGI!!!) The problem, of course, is finding talented people. I MIGHT be able to locate someone... If I'm REEEEAALY lucky. But perhaps someone else out there can do his or her own music. It's just an idea.

Aren't you supposed to be able to download the midis? I can't figure out how to do it on my mac. Is that the problem? That it's a Mac?

You must keep the mouse button pressed so long that the popup-menu appears and then select "Save Link as...".

The idea in putting together the UYD Music Room was just that, to create a soundtrack for UY. The page was created during my "put midi music on every web page" phase, which quickly got shot down by users who work in an office (you should be busy working anyway!!!). As far as a CD-based version, Aaron is correct, this would be construed as infringement, especally since we'd plan on selling them. The only thing we've ever sold for fundraising are the UYD t-shirts, which are no longer being made (currently). The funds were used to pay for the domain name registration, some Dojo events way back when, and shipping fees to winners of UYD contests. Lately, we haven't had too many expenditures. I've been paying for the domain myself, which is good for another 5 years. However, should we need funds for anything else, more t-shirts will probably be made...

Usagi Dojo T-shirts

Post by 4NT »

Todd,

You mentioned T-shirts as an old promo piece, now that I would really be interested in! How involved is it?
We could create a contest for the front and back design. Any takers? Maybe a new discussion thread?
