The Art of Usagi Yojimbo

Post by Todd Shogun »

I just received the UYD copy of the Art of UY (thanks, Stan) and I gotta say ***WOW***. Definitely way more than worth the cover price. This book is absolutely perfect. Literally every Usagi fan's dream come true. From the striking cover, to the endpapers (featuring the Kite Festival scene with every UY character -- in grayscale), to the glossy crystal-clear pages, and of course, the incredible color sections. Fans who already have the two color stories reprinted here will be in for a treat as they are done even more justice on the 12"x9" format. Plus there's another color section featuring some of the more famous paintings -- and some new ones -- Stan has done. Of great interest to me were the early drawings of Usagi from 1980-82... very cool!! The semi-transparent vellum-style sectioners were also a very cool bonus. The other artists section rounded out what I consider to be the cream of the cream of the crop in art books. It comes with perfect timing...Usagi's 20th... 140 straight Usagi issues to date. I'm sure Stan will more than surpass Dave Sim's record in the following years (as pointed out in the intro by Diana). Superbly done!!!! At only $39.99 this is an immense bargain. What a way to round out UY's 20th Anniversary....!!!!

Will Diamond Distributors have the Art of book by next week?

Post by starseed »

I'm just wondering, I'm absolutely dying to get my hands on a copy of the Art of Usagi Yojimbo 20th anniversary book before the holidays begin, which for me is the 23rd.

Does anyone know if Diamond distributors, (major comic book distributor) will be carrying the book in their last shipment before next Friday? If so then I'll wait and get it from them next week at my local comic shop.

If not then I think I'll get it expedited as quickly as possible from Heritage source. Air mail to Canada usually takes 2-3 days and if I order now I should definitely get it by next week.

Anyhow, thanks for any info I can get!

Cheers!

P.S. This is my 1st post ever!

The Art of UY was on Metro Toronto's list of holiday gift books on Tuesday, Dec 14, along with The Complete Peanuts, Michael Wood's Shakespeare, and Laura Foreman's Alexander the Conqueror.

This is Toronto's largest paper.

Is The Art of UY out yet?

Hello everybody,

I've contacted my comic book shop here in my city and they tell me they will know by tommorrow (Friday Dec 17th) whether or not Diamond Distributors will be releasing The Art of Usagi next week.

So I guess all I can do is wait until tommorrow to find out if I can get my copy before the holiday break.

I live in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and so, because we are the most easterly island in Canada and as well in all of North America, it sometimes takes longer to get our shipments up from the eastern seaboard. Especially thsi time of the year when the winter weather plays havoc with shipments.

But I will post tommorrow once I find out if Diamond will be releasing this eagerly anticipated book for anyone else who might also be hoping for this before the holidays.

Cheers!

According to Amazon.com they'll have copies in hand on Dec. 24th.

Of course they list the shipping time of the book to be 1-2 months. Hopefully that'll change once they have the books.

My local comic-book store told me that they didn't know for sure when they'd get the AoUY, but since they get their orders through Diamond they told me that it was possible that they could get it before Xmas. It would certainly be a very nice gift for myself 8) .

Ah, but how many of us could afford it then?
