I read 4 out of 6 from your haul. Let me know what you think of Oddly Normal and Wrassle Castle.

I hope Wrassle Castle is good. I like Paul Tobin and Galaad so that's a start.

I've already read Oddly Normal 4 and thought it was ok. It was a very quick, fun read.

I also read Gideon Falls and liked it (a little confusing). Very good art. I'd rank it just below Ascender/Descender, Sweet Tooth, Black Hammer and Essex County.

ON and WC are the only two I haven't read yet.
I think Essex County is Lemire's best. Wasn't a big fan of Sweet Tooth (I felt he was trying to emulate the emotions from Essex County too much and didn't succeed. Whereas in EC the feelings all flowed nicely within the stories, it felt a bit forced with ST).

 I almost went for Wrassle Castle but decided not too, because wrasslin's is just plain silly.
However, I'd like to know what you think about it.

It's been a while since I posted my new books, so I think some of these go back to early September.

I'll break this up into several posts because theres just so much stuff...

Part One.

Of course the new Fantagraphics Usagi Yojimbo HC set.

Part 2

My visit to the comic shop from 4 weeks ago...
Groo, Usagi, Norse Mythology, Witcher, and Demon Days were all on my pull list.
I grabbed Snelson for the cover by Sergio,

Graphic Novels, Trades and Hardcovers
Witch for Hire was a mispick, but I kept it anyways.
Several Star Wars manga... for whatever reason, I like these manga better than the American comics.
Empowered, Toppi, and Berserk are all on my pull list.

Part Three

I picked these up last weekend, so it's a few weeks worth of comics.
Comics are all from my pull list.
Usagi, because it's Usagi.
Groo Meets Tarzan, because Groo meets Tarzan. I do not remember my earliest comics experience, but I do think Tarzan was one of the books I'd read(?) when I was a kid (late 60's).
Jonna, because, well, I'm not sure.... but I like it.
Hellboy, Golem, and the House of Lost Horizons, because Mignola, Hellboy & the Occult.
Bermuda because I liked the art, but haven't read any of it yet.
Norse Mythology, because it's my heritage, once or twice removed.

Trades for this haul include Jonna, which collects the first comic book run.
Dungeon, because it's in color and I'm a dungeoneer at heart.
Last Witch collects the comic book run which I enjoyed.
And the Manga are fun for me. If you enjoy black & white comics, try a manga! :D

Good grief! That's a lot of books.

Wrassle Castle was a bit too silly for my taste. Who'd of thunk it with a name like Wrassle Castle? I might pick up volume 2 from the library when it comes out.

I was going to pick up Witch for Hire until I saw the Good Reads reviews. Oofa!

I have the Last Witch on order. Boom Studios has put out some quality stuff. Bodie Troll, Coda, Feathers, Giant Days, Irredeemable, Once & Future and SIKTC to name a few.

I still don't know how I feel about Groo meets Tarzan. After seeing the art I think it'll be a library book for me.

Ok, this is very important! I need you to read Jonna #6 and tell me what happens. The end of the trade was a bit of a cliffhanger and I don't want to wait 6+ months for the next trade.

I stopped buying ALL the UY variants. I only buy the one's I really like. I can either buy a duplicate comic for $20 or get a trade or two from IST. So I'm going for the trades!

Cartoon Books also sent me the first Tuki hardcover even though I paid for a single shipment. Something to do with book 2 not coming out until 2022.

What was it about the reviews that changed your mind. Worse comes to worse, it goes in my out pile.

In general, I don't like crossovers, and when they mix art styles I like them even less. However, this is Groo, and I must have everything Groo, so that is my main reason for even having this.

Okay, but give me time to get caught up, since I haven't even read the first five books yet!

If I remember correctly, it had about 80 reviews with a rating of 3.25 which is terrible. I'm easily swayed by the masses.

You can read the entire series in 15-20 minutes.

Originally the book was not on my list of pulls or special orders. The store manager misread an email I sent, asking for "The Last Witch", and all he saw was "Witch" and so pulled the wrong witch book for me. I told him I'd keep it anyways, but after reading some of those reviews, I'm sure I'll pass the book along to someone else now. I enjoy a good witch story, but this one just doesn't seem to hit the right bells or blow the right whistles for me.

Okay, so I did it. But it took about 20-25 minutes because there was much more dialog in issue 5 & 6.

The trade contains issues 1 to 4. Did you read issue 5? Issue 6 is similar. I don't want to reveal too much, but Jonna punches a monster.

My quick review is... I give Jonna a C, maybe a B/B- for the story telling, and a B+ for the art. It just doesn't move me the way I was expecting. In closing, I'm mostly disappointed in Jonna as a comic book - the art is nice & fun, but the story building is lacking (at least for me).

Gaffey, I’m interested what your review Gideon Falls ending. I was so disappointed in the ending. I was totally sucked in for the first 26 issues but the last one didn’t do it for me. Just wonder what your experience is with it. Peace, maka

Huh, I never got a notice from this thread. :? Anyway, I agree that the story is lacking, but I really like Samnee's art. Glad it was cheap!

Once again, I agree that the story was a bit of a letdown. I was telling Kyle how good Lemire is and the endings to his last two books, that I've read, have been disappointing (Gideon Falls and Family Tree). Not to mention Gideon Falls had me confused for a while. I'm just not that smart. That's why I read books like Jonna! :P

I still have hope for Ascender!

I bought these for future giveaways but if the participation rate is anything like Kyle's Yokai giveaway I might just hold off. :(

I paid to have both books sent together but I guess they decided not to do that? :?

I think Tuki book 2 was delayed and now expected to ship in January, so they decided to ship everyone's book 1 out seperately including those who opted to have both books shipped together.
