General discussion (non-Usagi Yojimbo related) about all things Japan -- Feudal Japan, Samurai, Ninjas, Anime & Manga, Chambara films, Japanese Pop Culture, Otaku, martial arts, history, sushi, giant robots, Godzilla... anything Japan-related!
I´d like to recoment that anime wich is ongoing at the moment in japanesse TV.
It is based in a 18-19 century in japan with some xtrange things, like graffitys and so on
Also it features some of the best samurai battles if ener seen
Let me know your opinion after watching it.
Samurai Champloo is, along with Fullmetal Alchemist, the finest anime to come out of Japan in years. Brilliantly animated, it has hilarious moments as well as dramatic ones, and the plots hey keep coming up with are fantastic (I really like episodes 8 and 9, if you see the series you'll understand why .) The producers also chose to add a hip-hop style to the series, which I find absolutely brilliant (episode 18 is about a group of ronin in a tagging competition, drawing graffiti in dangerous places like the lord's castle, and episode 8 features a rather crazy man looking for fame alng with his mouth-synthbass buddies.) If you have a chance to watch it, then do so; you won't regret it.
I don't think the series will get licensed yet (there are a few episodes left to air on TV,) so the only way to get it is via your favourite P2P app (DC++, ed2k, bittorrent.)

I also like the fact that mugen doesn't know how to read the characters, (the only one he know is "NO"), and he learns how to read in a single day of "hard" work
Age rating: Mature (May contain sex, drugs, and extreme graphic violence)
Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Historical, Shounen
Plot Summary: Mugen is a fierce animal-like warrior with a unique Bboying (break-dance) inspired fighting style. Jin has a more traditional style but don’t think of this as a weakness because his skills are amazing. The two contrasting samurai warriors are far from friends, yet their separate paths seem to cross anyways. Mugen is wandering aimlessly through the city when he stumbles upon a teahouse where he meets Jin and Fuu (A ditzy waitress, but don‘t think she doesn‘t have anything hidden up her sleeves). Fuu convinces them both to come with her in search of a mysterious samurai that smells like sunflowers and their journey begins. This modernized hip-hop tale breaks the barriers of the common, historical, samurai anime.
It lists all the Samurai Champloo episodes up to date fansubed in English, and has ed2k links for downloading them. I believe the series has not been licensed yet, so you're not doing anything illegal in case you were thinking you were. Hopefully when it gets licensed it will come in a decent DVD edition, at least in Spain (most DVD releases here suck .)
I forgot to mention that the series is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, the same one who did Cowboy Bebop.
