Eisner nominations

Post by Stan Sakai »

Editor Diana just informed me that I am nominated for two Eisner Awards, and The Art of Usagi Yojimbo is nominated for another two.

My nominations:
Best Writer/Artist
Best Lettering

Art of UY nominations:
Best Publication Design
Best Comics-Related Book

Speaking of which, The Art of UY is sold out. DH is considering reprinting it as a soft cover book. (Second printings of hard covers generally do not sell well enough to justify the costs.) I'd like to see this book perennially available. What do you think?

I will have a few copies of the first printing HC of Art of UY for sale at San Diego.

Absolutely. Every UY fan, present or future, should be able to obtain this great book. I am not surprised it was nominated. Congratulations on that and your other nominations!

Congratulations! You definitely deserve it.

Hardcovers are awesome, but usually too pricey for me. I am more apt to buy something in paperback, as are a lot of people I think.

Congratulations on the nominations, each and every award you are nominated for and win is much earned deserved after all the hard work you put into creating the most consistantly entertaining series of comics published currently.

I think a tpb edition would be nice, then I could afford to buy it for my nephews :D (I bought the hardcover edition the day it came out for myself  )

Congratulations!

Would the soft-cover still have some of the pages in color?

It would be nice if they were out before June of this year, I could buy a few for some of my students-- tell them I said to get a move on!

Congratulations!!!
It's well-deserved!

As for the Art of UY being SOLD OUT???
Noooo!
I never got it! I ordered it from my comic shop, kept asking about it, and he never got it in the store for me. (That whole middleman thing in distribution seems to still be a problem on special orders, I think the Neko ninja might be involved myself....)
Please have them do a soft cover version so I can get it. And I agree that I know a couple UY fans who wouldn't buy a hardcover due to the price but would a softcover.

Back from a weekend trip...

Congratulations Stan!

The Art of UY is a great book. If it's reprinted as a TPB, will it still have those translucent paper sheets separating the different sections? And the colored artwork?

The color sections will definitely be included. Keeping the translucent chapter dividers would depend upon the costs, and would be Dark Horse's call. They are a nice touch, and I will encourage them to keep them. The kite festival endpapers would have to be eliminated, though.

Hopefully, all the guest artists will agree to the reprint. If not, I have some other artists that I would like to include.

Congratulations Stan!! The Art of UY is so good I paid full price for it!!

Although I'm sure the ceremony will be a somber occasion this year with the loss of Will Eisner
