Yojimbo: the film

Hello UY,

I just finished watching Kurosawa's Yojimbo. The last time I watched it was in college, maybe 12 years ago. Fortunately, my library has a pretty nice foreign film DVD selection. The past month I've also watched Rashoman and Throne of Blood.

While those last two were entertaining to watch (especially since the DVD's have interesting commentaries), I think Yojimbo was the best of the three. It was a clever story and Toshiro Mifune is so good as the wandering samurai. Usagi is based on a great fictional character.

Now I just have to watch Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo.

Great film, but I think he must have ripped off 'A Fistful of Dollars' for the plot, just like he ripped off 'The Magnificent Seven' for his film 'the Seven Samurai'.

Yeah, and he ripped off "Battle Beyond the Stars" and "A Bug's Life". What a hack.

And "The Hidden Fortress" was a total rip-off from Star Wars: A New Hope. I wonder why Lucas didn't sue...
