Belgium/France: what to bring
I'm trying to travel light and compact, but if there is something anyone there would like me to bring along--window stickers, magnetic bookmarks, art, etc. you can either post it here, or e-mail me.
No, I will not bring any Dutch or French editions.

Re: Belgium/France: what to bring
Hello,
I'm relativly new to this forum, so I'm not accustomed to "ordering" anything directly from you;
(Btw, if I wrote these lines by hand, they would be quite shaky; to even write to Stan Sakai....)
So, you asking what you should bring along is as if Santa Claus was asking me about my Christmas wishes...
Do you have any poster-like pictures of your comic covers? I especially liked the kite festival that was used in the "Art of Usagi Yojimbo" book.
We'll be meeting in Paris on 28th of October in "Arkham", and I'm really looking forward to it...

If there is something that you are particularly looking for, such as the last UY comic to complete your collection or a piece of original art, you can ask for me to bring it to my upcoming appearance. I'll sell it to you or, if it was a giveaway, I'll give it to you. Just because to ask me to bring something, does not obligate you to buy it. It's as simple as that.Thomas Froehling wrote:Hello, that would be like carrying owls to Athens....Stan Sakai wrote:

I don't have any posters of the covers right now. I believe there were two made as giveaways--The Kite Festival and The Courtesan (printed as the centerfold of the Dark Horse Extra). The Art of UY's cover was also made as a limited edition signed and numbered print that sells for $100. I do have a few copies of the free Emerald City Comicon 2004 poster of a giant Usagi attacking a tank. I'll bring one of those for you.
I'll see you in Paris.

OK, That got my attention. Was there another Usagi poster featured in Dark Horse Extra besides the Demon Mask promotional poster? If so, can you (or anybody else) provide details (i.e. date, issue, description, etc.)?Stan Sakai wrote: .....I believe there were two made as giveaways--The Kite Festival and The Courtesan (printed as the centerfold of the Dark Horse Extra).
PS
Are you accepting lists of items to bring back from France and Belgium?

You're right. It was the Demon Mask cover I was thinking of. Both feature a posed Usagi with a large background figure.Steve Hubbell wrote:[

I can't promise to bring anything back from Europe. I usually return with much more than I leave with. Sharon has already ordered a bagette. What did you have in mind?

A baguette? From France to California?Stan Sakai wrote: I can't promise to bring anything back from Europe. I usually return with much more than I leave with. Sharon has already ordered a bagette. What did you have in mind?
Wow!

You'd better buy some Belgian chocolates, Sensei. They're godly and not as vulnerable as baguettes.

Or a raspberry beer.

The European breads tastes so much better than US breads. It must be the water or something.Robweiller wrote:

Belgian chocolates, definitely.
I'm not a beer drinker. In fact, I'm not a drinker of any alchoholic beverage. When I was in Belgium, someone proudly gave me a whole case of selected beer brewed in his home town, and made me promise that I would bring it back to the US. It took up a whole suitcase. I gave most of it to friends who enjoyed it a lot. I did sample some Buffalo Grass vodka in Poland. I declined a second glass saying I don't usually drink alchohol, their reply was, "It's not alchohol. It's vodka!" Five glasses of orujos in Granada was past my limit.

Maybe I should bring some German bread, just for the fun of itFanfan wrote:French people miss french bread when they travel...Stan Sakai wrote: The European breads tastes so much better than US breads. It must be the water or something.

But we are kind of filling Stan's suitcase for his journey back, while he was asking what he should bring along...
Sensei, I would really, really love to have a picture of Usagi and Jotaro enjoying themselves, since my daughter was very fond of the cover of TPB 19 (so much, in fact, that she wished to have this picture on a T-shirt).
If you had something suitable for a five-year-old girl...

That would be great!

What if they travel to Canada! I eat french bread all the time.
I wonder if baguettes in quebec are much different from baguettes in france...
I had a salmon sandwich on baguette in paris, but I never really thought to really compare it to bread back here.
hooray for speaking french with an accent!

Err... you guys had it first, so we're the ones with the accent. unless quebec-french was the original, and people in france just developed their own new way cause they wanted to be cool.Fanfan wrote:Perhaps we are the ones who speak with (parisien) accent...Dr5trange wrote: hooray for speaking french with an accent!

there's also hamilton ontario french, which I'm told sounds completely different. and new brunswick french is also probably different.
