Samurai Titles?

Post by chickrockguitar »

Hey all,

I was just wondering, apart from Usagi, Ninja Scroll and Blade of the Immortal, are there any other currently ongoing Samurai/Ninja comics out at the moment?

Thanks!

Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Lone Wolf and Cub.....

Then there are Japanese only titles like Ninja Bugeichou.

Vagabond (Viz) which is about Miyamoto Musashi

and

Path of the Assassin (Dark Horse) from the creaters of Lone Wolf and Cub

and

Samurai Noir (Image) not too sure on this, but I've heard it described as a cross between a detective story and a samurai story, not sure if it takes place in the present or the past.

In addition to those mentioned, Kaze Hikaru is another manga with 3 volumes out so far, but it's classified as shoujo, so it might not appeal to all male readers. It's a semi-historical take on the Shinsengumi at the time leading up to the Meiji Restoration, but with a female character posing as a guy. The mangaka has put effort into researching sword fighting and armor, as well as being accurrate as possible to buildings, clothing, etc. And from what I've read up on the Shinsengumi, she's put a lot of historical accurracy into that, too, despite the creative fun with her female lead.

And by the way, I loved the Ruroken series. That just finished up with #28 last summer. It's definitely got fantasy elements in there, as opposed to total historical accurracy, but it's good!

And while it's not exactly pure clasic samurai or ninja, Bleach is one my new fave manga and anime. There's samurai-ish and ninja-ish elements in there with a modern twist. It's kind of hard to explain, but there's plenty of good websites with story explanations for it.

Another ninja manga that is just now coming out in English, is Tail of the Moon. It's about a female ninja--named Usagi!!--that is failing at "ninja school". So she's sent to another clan to marry their leader (and do something useful like make a baby)--but he doesn't want her. It seems to be somewhat historical, somewhat fantasy. Again, it's classified as a shoujo, so it might not appeal to all male readers.

Thanks for the replys everyone,

Isn't: Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Lone Wolf and Cub, Vagabond and Path of the Assassin limited Series?

I know Samurai: Heaven and Earth is.

I was looking for ongoing ones. Monthly titles, like Usagi and Blade.
