the alternate ending

Post by go »

Dear Readers,
Thank you Sensei Sakai for creating these wonderful books.
All bow down to our Mighty Shogun for posting the cover.
I am really looking forward to understanding the controversy about the alternate ending.
Thank you very much for all of the fun.
Best wishes to all!

I completely agree with Gordon, THANKS for all !!!

I am impatient to discover this new UY sketchbook. (even if I am far to understand the controversy about those famous ending)

I completely adore the illustration of the cover.

I hope Steve and other dojo members will enjoy Motor City Comic Con.

(price and postage reimbursed of course)

Thanks for posting the cover, Todd.

The story, Mayumi, is the alternate ending for The Killer story arc that ran from UY 94 to 102. I shortened that 24 page story into 10 pages to fit in UY Sketchbook #4. The art is in that sketchy style that I usually reserve for my autobiographical stories, and that I used for Sukanku in the UY SBk #3.

The other stuff is made up of a short 3-page story, and misc. art some of which you here on the Dojo have already seen, such as the end paper for UY Book 21 and the Mouse Guard inks.

I do have copies of the other sketchbooks, but very few of #1. They are limited to 750 signed & number copies. As I said in the past, these are more for the collectors who want an insider's view into my process of creating Usagi.

And for many of us on these dojo boards, being the fans that we are, those sketchbooks are certainly worth having!

I really love the cover and the linework. It looks like it could be a very interesting story. Is there any chance that this is a story in developement which we will see in the future?

There is no story behind this cover. It's just one of those drawings that I thought would look cool. I'm a sucker for drawing of things coming out of the ground...and tentacles. Maybe next year, I'll do a wraparound cover of Usagi with tentacles, ala Fanfan's art from St Malo.

wow Fanfan That's a fantastic piece, you lucky thing you. I recently came across another really nice example of Stan-san doing tentacles. I'll see if I can post it:
hmmm... nope - weird
It's a pin-up Stan did for Guy Davis of his character The Marquis with his trademark gattling pistol and a whole bunch of tentacly goodness. It's a really nice piece. Guy sent it to me in an e-mail a couple of days ago but it's in a weird format that I can't copy or save. There may be a reason for this - I'll inquire.

Anyway congrats on a wonderful piece Fanfan.

Ok everybody's kool and it turns out this is on sensei's website but just to add to the tentacle theme here's the Marquis pin-up. I can't recommend this book highly enough - gorgeously creepy!

I picked up the sketchbook from the printer today, and gave some to my Friday lunch group. They all enjoyed it, but Scott Shaw! did ask why there was a drawing of "Usagi's Thing" in there.
