What's the single funniest panel in USAGI YOJIMBO?

Post by Ben »

My personal pick would have to be the one-page strip Stan did for the Comic-Con International: San Diego catalogue, even if it isn't a part of UY canon.

It's the panel wherein Usagi and Tomoe come across Gen's corpse. There's something about the expression on Usagi's face...

That was pretty fantastic!

When I think of Usagi, funny is not one of the first things that comes to mind, though I know I've had some darn good laugh out loud moments. I just can't recall any of them right now.

Maybe it was when The Turtles asked Usagi and Gen if they had tails.

I forgot the issue, but it's with Usagi and Mayumi and they're walking in town. He tries to brush her off with some coarse talk only she doesn't buy it. And he rolls his eyes to the heavens, beaten.

Way back when Usagi meets Groo (Groo being an anthropomorphic pig). I think it was in Lone Rabbit and Child. Their thoughts of each other were hilarious.

there are many Gen/Usagi interactions that are funny. As far as a single panel... I can think of two off the top of my head. One is in a sequence of wordless panels where Gen and Usagi are travelling and it just shows Gen laughing at Usagi who is sitting on a rock with his sandal off and a big thorn sticking in it. Another similar one I really like has Usagi travelling alone in silence and he steps on a turtle (again) and the panel shows him wringing out his sleeve with a wonderful peeved look on his face.
.
I love him when he's pissed off

My favorite one is (in fact, are, cause there are two) an interaction between Usagi, Gen, and Kitsune in "The Shrouded Moon":

Gen laconic comment when Kitsune comes running, shouting "Someone's after me!" and later, when the three are together at an inn.

Kitsune asked "What have you been up to?"
Usagi:"Oh, nothing to speak of."
Gen: "What?"
Greetings from overseas

One of my fave panels is in Hokashi Part 2, when Jotaro tries on his new swords... "Well... How do I look?". Hehe, I think it's classed as funny because the swords are miles too big for him! :D
