A question to all members...

Post by estee »

Now the Albedo issues of Usagi are, for me at least, the rarest books in the Usagi line.

I have never seen them for sale at any store or convention in all my years of collecting.

I'm just curious to know who here at the Dojo has copies and perhaps share a story or two about how you acquired them and how much they cost at the time.

Cheers.

I have a copy in VF to VF+ condition. I acquired it in an ebay lot about two years ago. It was a full run of Albedo, and I think I paid about $550 for the whole thing. Most members of the Dojo have great stories about finding theirs at garage sales or in stores for $1. Not me. Still, I'm glad I got mine before the recent price boom. $550 would only get me Albedo #2 by itself these days.

I bought mine (somewhere around vf - nm) through a half-price sale ad in Comics Buyer's Guide back in '98 for approximately $20 or $25, plus $5 shipping. I had probably called a hundred comic shops asking if they had copiesof it over the course of several months prior to seeing the ad.

Funny thing was, a semi-local comic shop I visited occassionally, in a town about an hour away, had a copy all along, hanging on their wall priced at $30 or $35. I had asked a friend who worked near the store to stop in and buy it for me, but was told that it had been sold. Apparently, he just looked in the box for it and never asked the store employee about it.

I found one in a box sold from a guy who had been in the US base in Frankfurt and sould out his things he had there.

The full box was about 20$ at the time.

Now that's a bargain!

I got a complete run from eBay last year, went for $860 which looking back I think was undervalue (ie. good for me!) especially as #2 is in really good condition.

Dear Readers,
I paid cover price.
This was before Albedo was listed in the Overstreet price guide.
Happy hunting.
Best wishes to all!

1989. San Diego Comic Con (back when it was at the old Performing Arts Center). $100. High school days...literally broke my bank account too.
