A Samurai question

Post by Space Wolf »

So, for Father's Day last week I was given a gift to buy more books, and I purchased trades 6-8 of Usagi. While reading book 6 I came across something that I have seen before in Usagi and thought I would ask.

Sometimes the samurai's only have one arm in a sleeve, and the other is inside their shirt, so the sleeve is empty. In book 6 that is the 3 time I have seen this. Does this have a meaning? I've been curious about it for a while now.

Thanks,

Ian

PS
I loved The Bridge story in book 6!

I don't think it has a particular meaning. The clothing is so loose that if you have an itch it's easier to just pull your arm out of your sleeve and reach for it inside.

I recall Mifune doing this in Seven Samurai.

you often see it when it's cold out as well. I do the same thing if I don't have gloves - keeps the paws warm.
