And you thought San Diego was big

Post by Stan Sakai »

Comiket 72 took place in Tokyo this past weekend. Attendence at the three day even was 550,000. San Diego was, maybe, 140,000. Comiket is a twice-yearly event. The next one is in December. According to one source, the Tokyo International Exhibition Center where the even is held is 4.5 times larger than the San Diego Convention Center. Comiket uses about 2/3 of the facility. So there is still room to grow.

I'm always going to complain!! SD will never get their stuff together. Actually if you do a little math, Comiket doesn't appear it would be as crowded as SDCC, with 550,000 and 4.5 times the space. It would take an attendance of 630,000 with that amount of space to equal SDCC's mob.

Did anyone catch the G4 coverage...? even they were complaining about the sardine can-like conditions.

Well, as a matter of fact, I have been doing some math: they've been using only 2/3 of the available space, so the space they used was "only" three times as big as SDCC....

But then again, we are talking about Tokyo here, where people are used to being squeezed in subway trains, so maybe they were enjoying the spacious condition at Comiket 72 after their trip to the Exhibition Center...

I watched it. I actually recorded both nights and then watched it after work, hoping to see someone of interest (yeah, right!).
